"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Pursuit drills.
http://www.deseretnews.com/article/8...re.html?pg=allOn April 27 when Texas 6A state champion Cedar Hills High opens its spring practice in Dallas, head coach Joey McGuire will introduce a little sprinkle of BYU football to his Longhorn practices.
It was McGuire’s tweet on the Internet in late March that explained his 140-word literary intention: “Watching BYU practice was one of the most impressive practices I have ever seen.”
What did McGuire see exactly? I asked him this past week while visiting family in Texas.
“We take pride at Cedar Hills in the effort our players give," said the coach. "What I saw at BYU was how much attention to detail the staff and players use, starting when they come on the field in their pursuit drill. It’s the most impressive I’ve ever seen in how they practice at such a fast pace. I’ll be taking back stuff and applying it to us.”

At times I think Bronco's personality would be better utilized as a basketball type of coach. He reminds me a bit of Majerus. Bronco struggles in connecting with people and is weird. His strength is getting folks to try really hard and he does a good job where he can control all of the moving pieces, as long as those moving pieces are small enough for one man to manage - such as coordinating a defense. However, when it comes to managing all the pieces necessary in running a college football program his lack of interpersonal skills are what limits him. His inability to be able to identify other smart and able coaches and his inability to recruit top tier players - or enough of them. He looks for people who also can get people to try real hard - but football is obviously more than that and Bronco doesn't have the people skills to anticipate who is going to struggle with others. If he were a hoops coach it would be much easier for a reclusive control freak to put his stamp on things.Originally posted by YOhio View Post

Hmm. Do you think our Offense's latest surge is attributed to the good doctor putting the current staff in place? I quite like our offensive staff right now despite being ok with the coaches that served under Doman and there are no glaring holes at any position unlike the D. I hope Bronco burns the midnight oil this year to get our backfield up to snuff by fall camp- our offense deserves that much."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I think Anae is a good OC - so yes I absolutely attribute the improved offensive play to Anae. I also think the recruiting has improved and that that will be more apparant this year and moving forward - especially on the OL. I like that Mendenhall went back to Anae but allowing Anae forced out for Doman was a glaring mistake for Mendenhall. I don't think Mendenhall is resistant to change once he is sure change needs to happen. To a certain extent I think Mendenhall was lucky Anae would return as I think Anae is a good OC. I never thought running Anae off was a great idea but I figured Doman would be fine in time - holy hell I could not have been more wrong.Originally posted by Commando View PostHmm. Nothing demonstrates Mendenhall's shortcomings more than his coordinator decisions. Limited circles of trust due to him being a bit of recluse, IMO.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

I have a buddy that was very angry that Cahoon was let go after he had done a pretty good job w our receivers. I agree that Cahoon was a great receivers coach but that's not the full story- I have always held the position that Holiday is absolutely an upgrade based on recruiting alone even if technique coaching is a wash. Without him we don't get some of these studs like Leslie and Blackmon (whose studliness is still to be proven, granted). Also, dude from Navy coaching the RBs was ok I guess, but are you kidding me? Atuaia is ABSOLUTELY an upgrade. And I guess there is little question about Weber vs Tujague at this point. But yeah- having a bunch of white guys as our skill positions coaches is fine if we're going to be ok with not recruiting in the islands or non lds guys in general, but we were never a good team not doing that. Trying to be as good as LaVell taking on handicaps LaVell never had? SMH."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I was convinced that Doman et all were toast after I heard Mendenhall interviewed after the BSU game. He really sounded really pissed and I felt then Doman was gone. As the year progressed I became convinced that Mendenhall was noticing that recruiting had really nosedived after Anae and his posse was sent packing. I believe it picked up a bit with the new group. My theory is that the Doman posse was just a bunch of young guys and that recruits caught onto that. I think the new group gets more respect and it shows in the kids they have landed.Originally posted by Commando View PostI have a buddy that was very angry that Cahoon was let go after he had done a pretty good job w our receivers. I would guess that Martzen deserves a load of that recruiting credit. He is the person that changed recruiting culture at BYU far more than anyone internally. He came from the outside and brought change with him. BYU now handles recruiting, recruits, NSD, social media, etc far differently than it used to...and that isnt anything to do with Anae coming back.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostI was convinced that Doman et all were toast after I heard Mendenhall interviewed after the BSU game. Incoming long snapper got a tattoo. Luckily long snapping isn't a position that requires good judgment.

That. is. AWESOME. Wow. That lettering. That shading.
I'm convinced he's messing with us.
*edit* Five minutes later and I'm still laughing about this. I went and checked out his twitter feed. He's totally not messing around.
