I think that Ute fans are pretty unsettled with their PAC12 standing. They know they haven't proven anything yet, and while they lord it over any non-PAC12 team, they secretly know deep down inside that they don't really belong yet. They also know they didn't do anything to deserve the invite except be the non-BYU team. They get the obligatory pats on the head from fans of other Pac12 teams, none of whom can bother themselves to stir up any real competitive juices for Utah, the runt on the edge of the litter praying for any kind of validation or even desultory notice from the big dogs.
This is why when Utah beat Stanford, it was hardly noticed, and when it was noticed, it was put down to inadequate preparation by the Cardinal, not to any prowess by Utah. While Utah prints out WeGotItDone tshirts to celebrate. Yeah that's going to convince everybody that you've been here before. But squeeze out every last drop of that victory in your desperate race to establish credibility before the Pac12 wakes up and realizes that inviting Utah was a bonehead move.
This is why despite AD Hill's (and the PAC12's) statement that Colorado is now Utah's travel partner and rival, Ute fans just can't bring themselves to start a rivalry with the other runt of the litter. You can't spout vitriol about Colorado because ummm, they look just like you. Two socially inept outcasts standing on the edge of the cool kids group, each studiously ignoring the other in hopes they can claw their way to some semblance of credibility with the popular crowd.
Just leave BYU behind. Quit following their current BeYeUndefeated campaign and denigrating all of their victories. Quit responding to BYU fans' claims that they have a good team. Cause the opposite of like isn't hate, it's disinterest.

Very nice essay, KL. I really only follow Utah in passing as I do any other college team. For example, I don't know who Utah plays next. I wonder how many Utah fans don't know BYU plays Virginia next.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostI think that Ute fans are pretty unsettled with their PAC12 standing. In the country of Sassyland, KL is the mayor of its capital, Sassy City. KL lives in the sassiest building in Sassy City and in her spare time she's the captain of the boat, the SS Sassy.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I guess Boise earned a spot too. Of course media market and butts in seats also count. But the rubber really met the road when political considerations were taken into account. Utah was good enough and acceptable while BYU was better but not acceptable. They're in denial if they don't admit this.Originally posted by The_Douger View PostSo cute the Utes think their good play for six years is what "earned" them a spot.Part of it is based on academic grounds. This is why CS is so awesome. People care and step up when others are in need.Originally posted by Flystripper View PostI had you coveredGive 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Arkansas State player plays dead against Miami on a fake punt. I have no idea what the rationale is.
This gif is too short, but there is another one that shows a different angle. After the player drops dead and lays there for a second or two, he starts to get up. Meanwhile, the fake punt is a pass that Miami picks off. So as soon as the guy stands up, he gets blown up by a Miami player now blocking after the interception.
Bizarre.Last edited by TheBYUGuy; 09-16-2014, 06:24 AM.
