Well, that was great.

Highlights

• Being in Provo in the fall and attending a football game in person. It was sloppy and a stupidly intense for a time, but the Cougare won out. It's trully enjoyable to see the Cougars win.
• Attending the game with my daughter. It was nice spending time with my little girl before my Sil showed up a little before halftime, finding out how things are going, talking about their post-graduation plans, discussiing family, just being with her. I asked her if she was happy, and she said "very." Brought tears to my eyes. He's a great guy and she married very well. He married better, much better.
• 3D was a champ and held my hand through the ticket search. Yes, it was MTSU, but I was able to secure some nice chair seats on the 30 yardline for pretty cheap. Don't listen to that Asian guy with the bikini babes, a speed boat, and a 20 CD program. 3D's approach is beautifully simple and based on sound principles.
• Got to meet 3D and CJ, and said hello to Pegleg. JL was oddly absent (that was actually a lowlight).
• That big flag they stretch over the student section before the game looks pretty cool from the West Stands.

Lowlights

• What is it with that Cosmo and chicken sketch? Why do they let the chicken get away. Then, a few minutes later, the Zaxby chicken is the good guy in another sketch. Very confusing.
• Dumb fan behind me and to the left. At every TV time-out he complained, "C'mon ESPN, let us play the game!" Really?
• Dumb fan right behind me. Early in the game he commented that he kinda hoped MTSU would win because it would hasten the demise of Coach Bronco. Really? Then, when it appeared BYU was going for it on 4th down, he commented how only pussies punt the ball. Taysom then quick kicked the ball. His best was after MTSU was called for holding. He said, "Yep, that MTSU guy held our #3." #3? Really? No, really?

Next week, the Aggies.

My favorite fan at the game was about to lose his mind screaming at the coaches for not letting Ammon Olsen throw a pass on the last series.

Did anyone keep an eye on Pikula and have thoughts on his play? He sure showed a nice burst on that sack.

Whenever Pikula is in the game, he's the guy I watch. It was nice to see him on the sack because he made a nice play and I was reminded why I think he's a very good linebacker. Outside of that play, however, as a guy playing out of position he simply doesn't do very much on the outside (interesting that he got that sack on an inside stunt). It's hard for me to watch a Pikula, a guy who I'm confident can get it done this level, be asked to play on the outside where he struggles so much. He played inside in HS, he's built like a ILB, he has the game and skills of a ILB, but BYU insists on playing him on the outside. All that said, I tend to think good football players can make it work to where they are effective wherever they are asked to play and given time, I think he'll do the same.

His sack came from a twist stunt where he was lined up outside. Same stunt they like to do with KVN. I agree with SMR, he looks to be an inside backer.

2 of 3 Falslev fumbles seemed to be a result of lapses in judgment. He has been doing a fantastic job on punts, but he decided to try and run 25-30 yards laterally and field both punts he muffed. That sort of thing is easy to fix, in fact, I don't remember him trying to every do that in the past, it was odd.

Ross Apo showed up and abused the corners when he caught the ball, ran them off the field on running plays, and generally played like a man. All of that seems very out of character for Ross. It might be that Cody is an alpha male and Ross wants to appear subordinate when Cody is playing.

Hill threw accurately from the pocket and while on the move. I hope he can keep it up, because we are going to need it.

Brown got better with each carry, I thought he looked better than either Lasike or Alisa. Lasike didn't have a great game and the way he set Taysom's pass 15 yards straight up was less effective.

Helmets and shoulder pads just give guys incentive to use their head as a ram rod. Unfortunately, when you use your head as a weapon it can be bad for your brain. Hine certainly took a bad shot to the noggin.

The game wasn't even as close as the score. Fumbles by Alisa and Hill inside the 5 cost an easy 14 points.

Brown got better the more MTSU gave up. Hard to tell much.

Whenever I get the urge to complain about Taysom Hill's passing abilities, I'm going to re-watch this game and focus on Kilgore. Was he just having an off day, or is he really that bad?
