  • not sure exactly when it was when bowl game names went from cool to completely ridiculous, but during said ridiculous sponsorship era, we have seen some bizarre bowl names (Fight Hunger chief among them). The Las Vegas Bowl has quietly been creeping up the all-time rankings, simply due to its longevity compared to some of the other bizarre bowls. It is no longer the Maaco Las vegas Bowl. It is now the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl. Royal Purple makes automotive lubricant.

    • I believe BYUs first trip Vegas was the "Panasonic" Las Vegas Bowl. That was a legit sponsor.

I'm pretty sure that's what Tom gives Gisele.

            • When it the Veg was sponsored by Pioneer the players wete given a catalog to select an electronic device of their choice. Most chose Xboxes or home theatre equipment. The school also gives them $500 best buy gift cards for making a bowl.

It seems the Michigan fan base is referring to it as the Copper Bowl. It is lame when the original bowl names are completely replaced. The Veg has that going for it at least.

I also saw a tweet that Petersen is contractually obligated to coach Boise's bowl game.
Harsin is interviewing in Boise today.

                          • Watched part of the BCS selection show. It took about two minutes before they brought up the "we don't know how motivated this team will be in this bowl" discussion. Outside of the national championship game, it's a compelling part of every other bowl game. Note to college football: if the most important question in every postseason game is whether or not the team that's playing will be motivated, then it's a sign you've got a completely messed up postseason.

The example of this that was used several times on the show was the 2009 Sugar Bowl.
