Maybe good stars, stars don't always equal talented football. I don't know their lineman, but I wouldn't trade one skill position player from Oregon for anyone on Texas. So who has better talent?

They were also one of the youngest teams in the country for one or two of those years. It's also why they may be so dangerous this year, returning 19 starters, the highest number in the nation.

Most of that team is returning. Thirteen 2013 senior starters are returning to the Aggie depth chart, while three 2013 seniors are on the two deep. Seven junior starters are returning and 12 Aggie juniors are on the two-deep. USU also features two starting sophomores on the post-spring depth chart and no freshmen.

By Steele's point system, this gives USU a total of 81 points, tied for second-most in the nation. Only South Alabama (85) has more.

I think Ash needs to take a big step though for them to be elite. But I don't think he is a very good QB.

Well there is that too. But the Big 12 in many ways is like the old WAC, wide open air it out offenses.

Texas' slide the last few years coincides directly with poor QB play. The followed McCoy with Gilbert, who was a disaster then with Ash/McCoy who haven't been much better. If Mack Brown can get himself a QB, Texas will be fine. Any coach can recruit duds at QB as it's such an inexact science.

Holy hell, Ash was 21st in pass efficiency last year at 153.3. You guys act as if he can barely find his own butt with two hands and a spotter. If BYU manages to have an efficiency of 153 or higher this year, we're going to destroy the opposition.

I was actually very impressed with Brian Logan as a corner. Yes he was small but he was very good for the most part and a great tackler. If he was 5'10 he is in the nfl (and never would have came to byu).

I'm glad you said this. Logan has probably been one of our better corners over the last 10 years, height notwithstanding. I'll take a guy who lacks in a physical measureable like height but excels in technique, understanding of schemes and positioning every day of the week over a guy who has the size but lacks the other areas. Yes, every once in a while you'll go up against a team that just flat out beats you, but those are fewer and far between.

I agree, I don't think people are giving Ash his due. You could tell two years ago that he was going to be a player, and I think he blossoms this year.

I'll take a guy who lacks in a physical measureable like height but excels in technique, understanding of schemes and positioning every day of the week over a guy who has the size but lacks the other areas. Yes, every once in a while you'll go up against a team that just flat out beats you, but those are fewer and far between.

Used to be that a 153 pass efficiency for a BYU quarterback was an expectation, not a dream.
