He also said he reached his decision a few days before the deadline and before several other highly ranked RBs announced they would leave early for the NFL draft. In my view, he will help his NFL stock by playing his senior year. But I take Abdullah at his word when he states that he wanted to reach his goal of graduating. If he gains 1,000 yards in 2014 he will be second all-time for career rushing at Nebraska behind Mike Rozier (needs about 1,800 yards to catch Rozier) and will be the first player at Nebraska to have three 1,000 yard rushing seasons. Abdullah should be in the 2014 Heisman Trophy conversation. But it's not without risk as he should well know. In 2012, Rex Burkhead decided to stay for his senior season and got injured which allowed Abdullah to start.

I just wondered if it was high enough for an insurance policy. That would be very important if I were in his position. It's a lot harder for a RB to choose to stay in school. Their pro careers are so short and a full college career only makes it shorter.

I agree; he's taking some risk. But I wonder how many players are able to successfully go back to college to finish their degree once their NFL career is over. There's also the thinking that he could improve his NFL draft status by having another good year and improving his game (in Abdullah's case, pass protection and NOT fumbling). So he might earn more in the NFL during four years then by coming out early and playing five years (using the 5 year NFL average he cited).

Then there's the long shot of winning the Heisman Trophy and breaking the Nebraska career rushing record. I don't think that happens because Abdullah was over worked last season and would probably need a few more carries this season to break Rozier's record. Nebraska has a couple of young ,talented RBs to spread the workload. Also, Nebraska will not be competing for the national championship in 2014 and that seems to help with Heisman voters. But if Abdullah can work his way into the first round in the 2015 draft, then he gets paid AND has his diploma.

        • Has either Sorensen or Friel done anything noteworthy in the Shrine game?

            • Two Huskies from CO assault a guy following the SB after he identifies himself as a Hawks fan. Petersen should kick these morans off the team.

Washington has announced the indefinite suspensions of quarterback Cyler Miles and wide receiver Damore'ea Stringfellow for violating team rules. What those rules are, the school did not say.

It should be pointed out, however, that Seattle television station KIRO reported that Stringfellow and another player were involved in an altercation following the Super Bowl on Sunday. According to the police report the station obtained, the two players allegedly assaulted a man with "multiple punches" to the "left eye, chin and cheek" before taking off in a car.

Seattle police would not confirm the identy of either player.

Miles is expected to take over as Washington's starting quarterback next season, as he served as Keith Price's backup in 2013. Miles appeared in eight games for the Huskies last season, throwing for 418 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 200 yards. Stringfellow caught 20 passes for 259 yards and a touchdown.

Good for them. More Seattle fans deserve to be punched in the eye.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

                • I try and condone assault where possible. But I guess every Broncos fan got punched in the eye already.

                      • the music made it pretty intense. i heard somewhere that some schools and players would be outfitted for helmet cams this season as an experiment. i wonder if there is truth to that. would be really cool on replays, esp a WR cam or a QB cam
                        Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I'd rather get the camera mounted on the chest area. With the helmet you get a lot of movement/shaking, head turning, etc. Fjnding a way to put it on the top of the chest would be awesome. Less side to side/head turning, but still be able to see the play where he's running.

That would be really cool. It was cool to see the play from above and then from the helmet version. Like Triplet Dad said, this would take watching the replay of plays to a new level.

From a coaching standpoint, I think a helmet cam would be invaluable for a QB and reading defenses and pass coverage. For example, when a QB misses an open receiver on a busted coverage, it would answer the question: "What was the QB looking at?".

Didn't they do that at Notre Dame a couple of years ago? I seem to remember that Brian Kelly did that during spring ball when he was evaluating his Q.B.'s. I remember Sportscenter making a big deal of it.
