  • Ziggy and the Draft

There's been lots of talk about Ziggy and the draft. Now's the time to lay your metaphorical money down, friends. At what spot will he be taken? A correct guess will bring a measure of newfound respect from the entirety of the CS board. Caveat emptor: if you're off more than, say, three or four spots you may lose a measure of credibility and subject yourself to merciless taunting.

Note as well that the site only permits a maximum of 10 possible answers. I would have liked to post 15.

I should have designed this thread so it wasn't anonymous. Kind of makes it tough to properly establish bragging rights. Oh well.

As for me, my sources* are telling me Oakland at #3.

Looking to the left side of the screen is hard.

The winner/s with bragging rights will almost certainly advertise anyways.

I can always look in the database and see who voted where if we need to settle a dispute.

EDIT: for the record, I voted #6.

To be honest, I think he should probably go between 10 and 15, but I think the hype is real and more powerful than many teams might want to acknowledge. While I think he has a tremendous upside, I would personally prefer to see him go a little lower, where expectations are more manageable.

I hope he doesn't go to Oakland or Jax. He needs better teammates and coaching than those places provide.

Seems like the most common projection I've seen is to the Lions at 5. I will guess the Jets at 9. My hope ... Broncos trade up and get him at 12.

Detroit needs an offensive tackle more than a pass rusher, but they still need a pass rusher really badly. Everything depends on whether Joeckel or Fisher are there at #5. If one is, then Ziggy could potentially fall past the Jets. Arizona needs an OT really badly and they'll pick Lane Johnson ahead of Ziggy. Cleveland runs a 3-4 and Ziggy may not be the best fit. Buffalo needs a QB really badly and has already devoted too many resources to its DEs. So that leaves the Jets, but they need a WR and they may be looking to find a premium CB and Dee Milliner may still be available. Also they run a 3-4 base, though they're not in their base most of the time.

Detroit is a likely destination. But there's a chance he slides if they don't pick him because of team needs for the teams picking after Detroit and because of the defenses a lot of those teams run. If he slides to #9, I can see several teams calling up the Jets and trying to trade up. I think the Giants and Steelers want him badly. I think the best thing that could happen to Ziggy is that he slides to the point where a more solid franchise will trade up to grab him.

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
