    Utah Signing Day: 2013

I thought we needed one place to voyeuristicly follow a bunch of 18-year old boys.

As of 8:22 AM MT, signatures have been received from:
    • the Euless Trinity: Tevi, Uhatafe, and Vaenuku. Our future defensive ends (in three years, post-mission).
    • Micah Thomas, who was looking hard at Baylor over the last week. Another QB that will never take a snap!
    • Troy McCormick, a RB from the Houston area. We beat out Duke for his services.
    • Hipolito Corporan, db from Houston. He had verballed to UVA. In your face, Ralph Sampson!
    • Ueae Masina, Brighton. Name is pronounced "Why-uh."
    • Harrison Handley, Alta. His father played TE for the Cougars, but as utahutes.com notes, his "mother is a Utah graduate." Mothers who know.

    The JC guys:
    • Greg Reese, TE, interested in biology
    • Davion Orphey, DB, former Cougar commit, three years to play two
    • Andre Lewis, WR, highest rated Utah commit on rivals
    • Andrew Albers, OT. Originally walked-on at Utah in 2011 before leaving for a JC

Reading through the bios, it seems like an inordinate amount of recruits are into acting and singing. I blame Glee.

    • QB Conner Manning, son of Eli, is a Ute!
    • Marcus Williams, RB out of Vegas is as well. He had the highest score at the SPARQ combine. That sentence means nothing to me.

Pretty sure he is not related.

        Three more are in:
        • Myron Aiava, DT. He looks like a classic Whittingham recruit - maybe not that great at football, but he averaged 12 and 5 in basketball, and started on his volleyball team. Big athlete.

        JC:
        • DeVontae Booker, RB. Signed with Washington State out of HS. That does not impress me.
        • Sese Ianu, DT - Choose Utah over Oregon St. and Boise. Could be the early leader to start at DT next year.

            • Dre'Vian Young, RB. Our third "top 100 recruit" in Houston (along with Hippolito and Micah). Eat your heart out, Longhorns.

He also "enjoys drawing." Looks like quite an artistic bunch of signees this year.

your sources told you that manning had a son at age 14?

                  • Dominique Hatfield, ATH out of LA. UCLA tried to poach him. I like "athletes."

OK, I have to run. All the other Ute fans on Cougarstadium.com, feel free to take up the banner and waive it proudly in my absence.

UCLA seems to be the run away winner in the PAC-12 South, USC is a close second, but Utah appears to be in the mix with Arizona and Arizona State.

The NFL needs to come calling again for Jim Mora Jr. again soon.

                      I'm back!

Two signees were inked in my absence:
                      • Tevin Carter, a JC safety who signed with Cal out of high school (as a WR). He only has 2 to play 2, so he'd better hit the ground running.
                      • Filipo Mokofisi, DE. Legacy kid. His dad was all-Wac in the 80s. We didn't have many all-Wac players in the 80s, so he has that going for him.

Ominously, a tweet from Utah athletics is clouding an otherwise pristine day:
1st-team all-state DE Filipo Mokofisi (Woods X) wraps up instate signees
I hope that is just Grapevinesque twitter grammar, because I count at least two in-state commits that haven't signed. One of them rhymes with Droll Botulaylay.

Scout.com shows "Droll" has already signed his LOI, but Rivals does not ???

Mokofisi and Masina. That's it. They are in.

Hmmm.... I just read this on the U's site:
Note: An NLI may be signed only for the upcoming year, so Utah's 2013 signing class includes only those members who will enroll during in 2013-14. Other prospects, for example those who plan to serve church missions before enrolling at Utah, did not sign NLIs today.
That means that Lotulelei and LeRon Tano'ai aren't walking through that fax machine.
