Right now the 21 year-olds are upperclassmen. As pellegrino says, there's a divide there. Maybe it won't make that much difference. Time will tell, I guess.

Seemed like his main point was that there would not be interruptions, which is true. There still may be some, but only by choice. Now anyone who wants to can have 5 consecutive years to play 4.

I think Elder Holland is wrong.

It will help the 100% mission bound kids that choose BYU but I think it will significantly hurt recruiting.

            Significantly? How so?

Save the drama for your mama. You are significantly overreacting.

Yeah I don't think so- the kids who are non-lds and the non-mission bound LDS will have more consistent camraderie/chemistry with their teammates instead of kids playing a year and bouncing and coming back on the field 3 years later.

That said, coaches are gonna have to go back to the drawing board as far as recruits and redshirt staggering, etc. Mangum could have been gone a year by now.

Drama? Maybe I have misrepresented my tone Mr. Loc. I stand by my prediction that this will not be a net positive for the BYU football program.

Will you please explain the significant damage it will cause to recruiting?

BYU will get fewer non-LDS and fewer wishy washy LDS that decide to go on a mish once they have some BYU experience under their belt. This will be easier manage for bronco but that is about it.

Only 18 yo freshman male, with 5,000 18 yo freshman females? Pretty awesome.

It's okay, we'll have good staggering between Hill and Mangum. That should give Hill enough time to win at least two Heismans before Mangum is ready to take over the reigns.

Besides, didn't he just graduate from HS this past Spring?

I kind of see what you're saying about the wishy-washy 18 yr olds, but how will it discourage non-LDS recruits?

No VanNoy, Heaps or Apo just off the top of my head. There are many others. Some of our best athletes do not serve missions and now the culture of team will be that much harder to relate to for a 17 year old high school senior that is either non LDS or might not want to serve right away.

I guess I am just not getting this argument.

Nobody on the team will be at their age and maturity level.
