I think this is probably about getting kids out there before they have a chance to screw up in college. My cynical side says this is about giving kids the green light to get married one year younger; one more year in that sweet spot of naïveté.

Thanks for setting me straight, because I was totally serious.

My son has planned on applying to BYU during his Junior year. Does this change that or do you apply while on mission ?

Yeah I see a bunch of 20 year olds getting married. Not a great side effect.

Downside is that LDS HS football players won't be able to go anywhere else, unless they skip the mission.

                      How is this a downside?

Yep. Many of byu's best athletes (even the ones that eventually serve missions) come to BYU thinking that they might not go. Now they will make their mission decision without the influence of BYU and I think more often than not that decision will be that they don't want to go right now. They want to play football.

hmm, we're going to need five or ten years to see how this plays out, but I'm thinking this could be a bad policy for BYU sports. There may be a dearth of 18/19 yo girls at BYU to help recruiting.

This will completely change the dynamic for freshmen at BYU. There will be almost no male freshmen which means that the few who don't go could get tons of chicks (possibly making them ineligible) and more freshmen girls will date RMs and likely get married sooner. I also think we're likely to see the average age Mormons get married drop by six months to a year.
