Thanks for the kind words, coach.

I was happy to see Craig Bills play well in place of Hague in the nickel package.

A few thoughts from the game:

Blue and white stripe thing looked cool in person. One of the reasons it didn't pop like at BSU is because we use the wrong shade of blue. If we were wearing the old blue it would have looked fantastic. Dark blue doesn't pop. The most important thing is that BYU is figuring out that these sorts of promotions generate excitement and the fans are showing a willingness to participate. The west stands did their part.

Perfect weather for a game...zero wind and the temp was just right.

Taysomniacs rejoice. He did what I was hoping he would do. He showed an ability to throw short passes (a must for any QB) and also an ability to throw a relatively deep ball. Yes, he could have thrown the deep routes a little better (although Hoff could have caught a couple of them but for PI or good coverage), but at least he has the arm to make that sort of throw without it being a desperation heave. I think it is clear that Taysom doesn't have a cannon for an arm, but that he has an arm that is twice as good as Riley. Many of taysoms incomplete passes can be ironed out with reps and working on timing. But he seems to have the skill set to eventually be able to pass the ball 20 yards with consistent accuracy.

He did make a poor throw while making the right read resulting in an INT so hopefully he can get that worked out. I am assuming that was an attempt to throw a corner fade into the end zone. That was fugly, though.

I read through the comments and haven't seen it mentioned, so I will maybe be the first here to rain on the parade, but here goes.....Taysom is fast and that TD run was amazing, but maybe I'm the only one that doesn't like seeing a lot of Riley 2.0. Riley has a busted back specifically as a result of all his BS scrambling around and diving head first, running with the ball 50 yards a game. It is fun to watch in the short term, but a long term recipe for disaster for a QB. Taysom is bigger than Riley, but linebackers are linebackers and ultimately, hill will suffer the same fate as Nelson if we don't dial down these QB run plays. Does anyone else agree or am I up in the night?

Bronco indicated that Nelson is the starting QB next week. It was the first question and the first answer. I don't care about that answer. Vertebrae don't heal in one week. Per bronco, Riley was supposed to start last night, too. If he wants to trot Nelson out to start and have him choke away a series or two before pulling him, that's on him. The fans in the stands have clearly moved on. I saw at least 3 different Taysom signs supporting Hill.

This defense gives us a chance going into the Gaunlet 4. Taysom gives us a chance, as well.

And as coach mentioned, our stadium atmosphere sucks. That place is so quiet.

You're not the only one. I was telling Noah we have running backs to run the ball. I don't like seeing rushes by Taysom as a regular part of the offense. Noah agrees.
          Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I agree 100% about the wasted opportunity in the 2nd half. And of course, Ziggy.

Two other thoughts: Taysom can't roll left and throw.

Also, they played Gangnam Style during a timeout.

In my post above I agreed with a Viking post and it's for the exact reason you mention - Taysom is a gifted athlete, but the running isn't sustainable, especially against good competition. They need him to throw the football and use every opportunity to get him those reps.

The problem is when you're in the process of winning by 50, common decency dictates that you hold off on throwing the ball so much.

It was Norm, the same guy that would let that kid transfer to any school but BYU. There was no need for common decency.

At the very least I think they should have let him stay in until the end of the 3rd. They pulled Taysom really early by any standard. The score was only 34-0. Let Taysom at least have that drive, and make that drive pass heavy.

Yes, but you can at least do it for the duration of the 3rd, maybe until the 10 minute mark of the 4th. There is also the thought that you're playing your backup true freshman, who you will need going forward, it's time to be selfish and throw conventional wisdom/manners, out the window. Do what has to be done for your football team to be successful.
