It's weird but despite being very into the game, surrounded by almost two dozen BYU fans at my brother's home all day, I can honestly say I'm about as upset as a casual fan would be. I'm up finishing off my gospel doctrine lesson and while it's obviously still fresh in my mind I'm excited about the future with Taysom and Williams. Weird.

I hate to think that turning 40 this year has...matured me?

We have come full circle now back to 2010, where we can be excited for our future, and not have to think of the dreadful present.

BYU fans get a D minus for the no show tonight. But those that came deserve an A.

I think RES ranks up there in terms of PAC stadium in game atmosphere. quite high, in fact. it is a good road trip for visiting fans.

I did my part. I bought two tickets. My son and granddaughter said they had a great time, mainly because BYU came back and made a game of it. My son did mention though it is a funner atmosphere.

That said, there is the jerk element of any fan base. The element is expressed one way by Ute fans and another by BYU fans.

I am talking a small minority here, but you don't see the low ball stuff at BYU you see at Utah. Why, BYU seeks to control how much fun the fans are having. They want the fans to have the "right" kind of fun.

While athletic competition for me is mainly about entertainment and yes identity with my team, somehow I feel with BYU I have to also be subject to being taught correct principles.

We don't boo, we don't play loud music, our cheerleaders go above and beyond when it comes to modesty, we don't stand up in front of elderly people, we don't swear, we tailgate in a controlled environment and we don't associate ourselves with players who have a beer. Our view of good clean fun is just on a higher plane.

At times I envy our ALUF brethern. They can just go to a game, have fun and not feel they are part of an effort also to be teaching correct principles.

Just watched Riley's post-game and a couple things stood out. First, he said they were not ready for the noise, and it was the biggest factor in their most costly miscues. He said it was something they were going to focus on headed into road games against Boise and Utah St. Second, he said that long completion to Hoffman was basically something he and Hoff "drew up in the sand." I'm glad our players have these improvisational skills, but what the hell is up with Doman if our best offensive play of the game isn't even the design of the OC?

Both of these seems like massive coaching failures.

He said it was something they were going to focus on headed into road games against Boise and Utah St. Second, he said that long completion to Hoffman was basically something he and Hoff "drew up in the sand." I'm glad our players have these improvisational skills, but what the hell is up with Doman if our good offensive play of the game isn't even the design of the OC?

I have no problem with that really, but that and a couple of other things I have heard makes me wonder how Apo is feeling about his decision to come to BYU. He is supposed to be a huge talent. Is he another Heaps. Huge talent not blossoming or can't they figure out some way to also get him involved?

Maybe its the delirium of lack of sleep and severe disappointing, but the thing that really worries me most (as a BYU fan) about all these losses to Utah me is the seismic shift in the influence of each program in the state. Utah is the most popular program in the state. It is by far the most popular program in areas with high schools that put athletes in D-1 football. The net benefit in recruiting has started to show up but I'm afraid we truly won't know for another couple of years.

This is a very precarious position that BYU is in. Their already shrinking fan base is frustrated. ESPN gives them coverage now but how much will it continue with some mediocre seasons. BYU doesn't have the luxury to sit on their laurels. But that's what it appears is going to happen. I fear they are not going to make coaching and personnel changes until the damage has been done.

I can see how Bronco and Doman were taken by surprise by the noise in RES. BYU only plays there every other year.

I'm starting to feel like this is Apo's last year at BYU. I feel like Doman learned something about him last year in that he needed to get him touches early to get him engaged. They would design little screens or whatever early in the game for him just to touch the ball and get him active. He always seemed better after that. This year I haven't seen any of that.

He runs terrible routes. He does not fight for balls. Ever since the UCF game last year, he seems to have started playing in a way to avoid getting hurt. I was hoping Cahoon would fix him.

I fear the changes that need to come is in philosophy. A philosophy that comes above the pay grade of the coaches. It started back when they started putting the clamps down on Lavell. It acclerated when they overreacted (my opinion) to the "scandal".

Until we worry less about the embarassment some 18 year old could cause us, the recruiting pool is going to remain limited. The pool is also shrinking due to the success our rivals are having.

Heck I heard Harline say on KSL today that the decision to go to BYU or Utah is much harder now. He said he wasn't sure which he would choose. Then he caught himself and said, I still think I would choose BYU, Utah wanted me on defense.
