I think they try to do too much offensively for the OL right now. Two of the internal starters are in their first year as starting and are sophmores. One of the tackles is a RS Freshman. It is difficult to learn all the assignments to both run block and pass block, regardless of learning both a power and option assignments.

I also think the fatness concerns/hopes all would be well with skinnier OL is kind of funny. Did anyone really think that is why BYU dominates shitty teams and then doesn't dominate good teams?

Regardless if BYU improves by saturday they will not rush the ball successfully with any consistency on Saturday. But I think very few teams will do so against Utah and I believe they can still win.

If they do their short passes right they can serve as something of a running game anyways, to negate Utah's rush and keep the clock and drives moving in small chunks of yardage.

I'm going to make a bold prediction: Riley will carry the team to a close victory next week. Utah is waiting to destroy us, and only one man has the eggs to will us to victory--Riley Nelson.

To me the worst part of being a BYU football fan is the constant bitching about quarterback play. Let it rest. He is what he is.

Especially after a game where he played two quarters, had a 21-point lead, and still threw for 244 yards. Yep, on pace for nearly 500 yards, and people are bitching. WTF?

I'm not worried about Riley. Doman's offense just screams, "I'm a good offense for a mobile QB." Sure, it sucks if you are Jason Munns or that new kid who went on a mission but Riley will be fine. I am worried about our O-line. I don't think I appreciated how much our offensive linemen used their mass to generate push and had poor technique on run blocking. Their pass blocking, in my opinion, looks better than ever but they are not getting low and driving off the line of scrimmage. They are too high but they don't have the ability to throw 340 lbs of weight at the d-line. As a result, they are generating no push on the LOS and we are losing the run game in the trenches. I admit that some of our running issues are a result of teams trying to stifle the run and make Riley beat them with his arm but more of it is poor run blocking. While I'm talking about our run blocking, our fullbacks are playing weak too. Generally, our blocking on run plays looks feeble until you get to our tight ends. That said, maybe we should have more designed runs that go outside the tackles. Our TEs are sealing well and our receivers are blocking well downfield. Good runs to the edge could be the thing for us but I'm not sure we have many in our playbook.

I'd take Riley over Feterick, Shoemaker or Miller or Charlie Peterson or early John Beck.

Lark looked decent yesterday. And the upside for Hill is huge. I like the qbs this year.

Not to absolve the OL but our RBs are still a pedestrian group of backups.

To me the worst part of being a BYU fan are the shirts, hats and sweatshirts that say Brigham Young instead of BYU. Nothing against the guy or anything, but it just looks kind of weird wearing an old prophets name on your clothes.

EDIT: I also hate the Honor Code. Probably worse than the issue I just mentioned.

                      Sadly, I agree.

                          So as opposed to this:

Would you prefer a compromise like this, with both initials and the guy's name beneath?

I had free tickets to the UNLV game last night against Northern Arizona. UNLV was up 14-0 after the first half and then lost 17-14. It was hilarious.

After the game, I finished watching the BYU game. Our QB threw the ball and receivers caught the ball. Its easy to take that for granted.

I don't get what purpose this thread serves, or bagging on Riley serves. I understand the purpose of message boards in general is to express our feelings, but what positive comes from this?

Does anyone dispute BA,RN gives his best effort every game, is the best option for this season in general, or the Utah game specifically? He does some goofy things off the field in interviews, but I guess I was the only immature and often cocky 23 year old on this board, and I had zero reason to be.

                                My opinion:
                                * He gives a 100% effort every game and most every play
                                * He reportedly practices hard
                                * He is well liked and respected by his teammates
                                * He is an RM and seems to represent the university and church well
                                * He has some physical limitations that aren't going to change, no matter how much I or anyone else want them to
                                * He has won the vast majority of games he has played significant time in

Call me crazy, but I'm going to go ahead and support him and hope he or his family never find this asinine thread.
