I didn't hear Bronco say anthing about a NC, top-10 finish, or even a predicted number of wins when talking specifically about his team for this coming year. His comments about overall goals for the program came when discussing the state of the program and the future of college football/BCS.

Ya, I didn't either. Last year there was a bunch of national championship talk, and the players seemed to have smack talking Utah on the brain today with the tidbits I heard while in and out of my office today.

I am fine with goals. I like goals. I just feel like we don't speak with a tone of humility at times, I guess.

Bronco should take one out of LaVell's playbook and just say "I think we have a chance to be pretty good" and leave it at that. Of course, that used to drive fans nuts 20-30 years ago too because LaVell didn't offer more than that -- and that he also used to only talk about conference titles and nothing about national titles.

Bottom line is that there isn't a damn thing these guys can say that will satisfy the fans. It is nothing but a Catch-22.

I remember those days well, and rolled my eyes whenever he said the primary goal was to win the WAC championship. Since that seemed like a given for more than decade beginning in the late '70s, it seemed at the time like he was setting the bar awfully low. I miss those days.

They have to have goals, and based upon overwhelming exposure they have to reveal some of those goals, the media latches on to a few soundbites, the fanbase is whipped up into a frenzy. I get it: BYU didn't promise a Top-10 finish, they just stated their goals. But to disregard previous blunders made directly by BYU is disingenuous.

Yes, you are right, however, Bronco needs to take a page from LaVell's playbook and just say "We could be good this year" and not state goals publicly in light of the spectacular failures to manage expectations in the recent past.

I want to get really excited about the coaching staff knowing what sort of food the players are eating but I don't want to set myself up for disappointment when the Washington State game rolls around and we learn that some of the players diets weren't being monitored as closely as we had been led to believe.

Did I hear KVN say he's on a 5000 calorie/day diet and Matthews is on 6500?

Surprised that there's no scheduling announcements considering there's still 4 more games left to fill/announce on the 2013 schedule.

And Utah has two. Our indecisiveness, coupled with BYU's insistence that we're the ones not making the commitment to keeping the rivalry alive, has turned a great rivalry into a gradeschool sandbox pissing match.
