I still can't Google his yewt. Maybe it's because I have strict filtering on my settings.

Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

That was a really poor headline, and not what Bronco said.Originally posted by atheistcougar View Post"It's devastating, because we lost to a team that's not even in the Pac-12. To lose to Utah State is horrible." - John White IV

True, but Mendenhall should know better than to say anything like that...if he's trying to manage expectations. At least he's toned the rhetoric down and instead of saying we're shooting for an NC, he lowered the expectation to just a top 10 finish and he didn't even time box it to this year either. However, the second he says something besides "one game at a time and let the season work itself out", headlines like this will appear and whip fans into a frenzy of unrealistic expectations.Originally posted by kccougar View PostThat was a really poor headline, and not what Bronco said.Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. Sometimes I just wish they'd say "We're doing our best to get the team ready for a strenuous year, and hope the results will reflect the level of personal comittment and effort the players have put in this offseason. Obviously we want to win all our games, but we'll just take it a week at a time and see what happens. We want to win just as much as the fans do."
It just seems like every time you put a mike in front of their mouths, they say something silly or create bulletin board material for someone. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

Have to admit, I've never heard this one before:
I want to get really excited about the coaching staff knowing what sort of food the players are eating but I don't want to set myself up for disappointment when the Washington State game rolls around and we learn that some of the players diets weren't being monitored as closely as we had been led to believe. The staff is monitoring players' diets better than at any time since he's been with the programFitter. Happier. More Productive.

nothing at all. I was confused by the writing. It seems to imply that BYU accomplished the first goal on the list and is now moving on to the second goal. Don't editors catch this sort of stuff?Originally posted by kccougar View PostBYU is now a "perennial" top 25 team. Bronco said that's good, but his next goal will be to be a perennial top 10 team. He could hardly bend over to hike it.
Of course, after he was done using up a scholarship, he was more than willing to get in to good shape to try out for the NFL.Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

There isn't anything wrong with that. Goals are goals, not predictions. Only people who are dumb or deliberately obtuse would take that comment to mean that fans should expect a top 10 season this year.Originally posted by kccougar View PostBYU is now a "perennial" top 25 team. If Bronco said that the goal was a top 25 finish, then people would burn him at the stake for being satisfied with the status quo. My guess is that a segment of the fanbase will still go after him for not being more ambitious than the top 10.

I didn't hear Bronco say anthing about a NC, top-10 finish, or even a predicted number of wins when talking specifically about his team for this coming year. His comments about overall goals for the program came when discussing the state of the program and the future of college football/BCS.Originally posted by The_Douger View PostSometimes I just wish they'd say "We're doing our best to get the team ready for a strenuous year, and hope the results will reflect the level of personal comittment and effort the players have put in this offseason. I'm ok with it from the standpoint of marketing to the fanbase as a somewhat reasonable step forward but I'm not sure this current team is even in the neighborhood of top 25, let alone Top 10.Originally posted by kccougar View PostBYU is now a "perennial" top 25 team. I blame the MLM environment for BYU's continued propensity to mismanage expectations year in and year out. Quest For Perfection? I still can't forgive them for that one. The spin the school put out following the first loss only compounded the problem further. Then the year after QFP we get this from Bronco: "I think we've moved on from slogans."

I'm getting the feeling it isn't BYU that is doing the mismanaging here.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostI'm ok with it from the standpoint of marketing to the fanbase as a somewhat reasonable step forward but I'm not sure this current team is even in the neighborhood of top 25, let alone Top 10.
