This is why Andy Reid is unlikely to coach at byu: hiring a big time coach would mean that football is a major priority for the university, which is contrary to every action they have taken over the last few years.

That said, Reid would be a fantastic hire. I am a fan of Andy Reid, and believe he would be very successful. Sadly his son would have benefitted from living in Provo and perhaps would have avoided many of the problems he got himself into.

Thought question: has a successful NFL coach ever gone on to fail at the college level? I can't recall any.
Define successful... bill callahan took the raiders to the superbowl (as far Reid has gone) and was mediocre. The wannstache was another. Dennis erickson might be considered another.

I can think of a few wildly unsuccessful NFL head coaches who went on to great college success, such as Pete Carroll and Nick Saban. And there are a few wildly successful NFL coordinators who went on to fail as college HC, like Charlie Weiss.

I think Bronco is a pretty good college coach, and wonder whether he is appreciated. Perhaps he made a few bad choices with assistants, bit given the very difficult circumstances that surround the position at byu, along with the restrictions on whom he can hire and recruit, he does an admirable job. Imagine being a CEO and a Stake President at the same time.

Being successful in that environment would require more than just great coaching skills. Perhaps it is more than Andy Reid would want to undertake.

This is one of the stupidest threads I've seen on CUF. I'd expect something like this on CB.

I'd settle for the return of "King and I". That Steve could sure get Barry going.

According to someone I trust, they told me at the time of the Bronco hiring that your observation is the reason Reid decided he had no interest in the job and the reason Reynolds did not get the job.

Perhaps Reid talked to Lavell and Fehlberg and Reynolds didn't have a lofty enough vision of RM's winning a national championship.

The guy who told me that got it directly from Andy.
