    What family?
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Sorry, I just read that and worded it wrong. Tanner's family has a meeting/dinner with Doman.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I don't think I would run away, but I would have some lots of questions for the QB coach that just lost and failed to develop a fellow 5 star recruit.

And two 4* recruits that have failed to go anywhere sitting on the bench.

Agreed. I'm excited about Mangum, but I would have some anxiety if I were him. He does to have a lot more fire and heart from the little I've seen of him, and also seems to have a lot more pocket mobility and quickness, again from the little I've seen and read. He could end up being a pretty good fit.

Still, as much as I love the spread and find it a fascinating development in college football, BYU seems like the last place it should be run. Well, except for the military academies, I guess. Does BYU really think it can consistently recruit quick backs, dual-threat QBs, and agile OL? Maybe it can.

Has there been any word that Doman wants to run a spread other than DH's article?

                    Doman can show them this:

                    2005: John Beck, PER 137.6, ranked #33
                    2006: John Beck, PER 169.1, ranked #2
                    2007: Max Hall, PER 137.7, ranked #30
                    2008: Max Hall, PER 156.9, ranked #13
                    2009: Max Hall, PER 160.1, ranked #4
                    2010: Jake Heaps, PER 116.2, ranked #98
                    2011: Jake Heaps, PER 111, ranked #106
2011: Riley Nelson, PER 163.6, would have been ranked #7, but not enough games.

There's an outlier on this list.

They all do coming out of HS, don't they? Some of the things constantly mentioned about Heaps coming out HS was how much he loved to compete (went to every single camp he could to take on everyone he could), and how much "it" factor he had in terms of his moxie (led his team to a 4th quarter comeback win in the state championship game as a Soph.) and leadership. Heck, Bronco's greatest recruit class ever was possibly more the result of Heaps than anything Bronco did, and everyone again pointed to this as a sign of what a charismatic leader he was. Didn't really work out for us.

                      Who knows with these kids.

He will have is answers and I am sure it will include this general theme but if I were the kid I would still ask questions and my questions would also include Lark and Munns as MG suggested. I am not saying that I could not be persuaded and reassured by Doman that everything will be ok, but I would still feel the need to have a discussion about how it is ging to be different for me versus Heaps, Lark and Munns. I would want the discussion to have more specifics than PER.

I think this would be exactly their concern.

There are so many disconnects with this situation that it is hard to be comfortable about anything, and as a 5 star kid I would be nervous.

They're going to find an outlier at pretty much every school they talk to -- with the exception of Boise State if they're even on his list. Unless one doesn't want to attribute any kind of credit to Doman as the QB coach, then Doman has established a pretty good track record between Beck, Hall and now Riley Nelson.

But the point is what's the connection between Beck, Hall and Nelson? All mostly unheralded 2** (maybe one in the mix was a 3* but point is none were highly sought after) recruits. Their question is not going to be can Doman coach a QB to success -- clearly he can. Their question is can he coach the type of recruit that Tanner is to success? Can BYU make that happen? And that's exactly where your numbers become a concern for them. Even going beyond the Doman/Bronco years, BYU seemingly hasn't had success with a blue-chip caliber QB prospect in a really long time. Certainly that must worry them.
