    1. Nick Saban
    2. Urban Meyer
    3. The Weasel (oops! no longer a coach. Has a coach ever been fired before playing in a CCG before now?)
    4. Patterson
    5. Bo Pellini

If Saban had signed Drew Brees instead of Culpepper, he would still be coaching the Dolphins.

I would add Chip Kelly and his recruitment of Lache Seastrunk and the harsh suspensions he gave Lamichael James for choking out his girlfriend, Cliff Harris for multiple violations, his reinstatement of Legarrette Blount even though he said it would be for the season.

In a few short years he has put his name on the list.

He was considered and received votes. Probably should have made it.

Nick Saban has built two programs. Not that either LSU or Bama were terrible before he arrived but neither one was a legit NC contender and now they are year in and year out.

Once you become a name school and get a reputation it makes it a lot easier.
Kelly has turned a decent program into an elite program. I provided the numbers earlier in the thread.

Elite programs win at least a NC and some bowl games (6-11 since 1990)

Semantics. Regardless of whether you think they are elite, the fact is, he's taken a decent program and improved it significantly.

"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Bellotti built the program from scratch. They were so bad they named their field after Rich Brooks a guy that had a losing record as head coach and only won 89 games in 18 seasons.

Bellotti went to 12 bowl games in 14 years and only had one season with a losing record.

So his predecessor had the field named after him for having a losing record in his career and Bellotti goes 116-55 in almost half the time at the helm.

He put Joey Harrington, Kellen Clemens, Dennis Dixon and would have put Jeremiah Masoli in the NFL.

Chip has done a nice job of keeping the program rolling but it was Bellotti who built it and just told him not to eff it up.

So a team that wins 70% of their games is only decent? That is 9-10 wins every season if you play a 13 game schedule. That is what they did under Bellotti.

On top of that Chip has not even graduated a full recruiting class yet he has only been there since 2009.

You are real quick to jump on his tip.

Peterson. My gut tells me that behind that squeeky clean farmer boy facade is a slimy cheater.

But he's good. He's at the top of my list of top coaches.

In regards to Peterson "keeping it rolling", many would argue he was the genius behind Hawkins. I think Peterson built Boise to where it is. He gets the credit. He's damned good on both offense and defense with very little in the way of resources.

Peterson deserves to be higher on this list than Patteson. Patterson just pisses off BYU fans. That doesn't make him sleezy.

Right, because Peterson had nothing to do with the successes enjoyed at Boise State prior to becoming the head coach:

Prior to taking over the top coaching position at Boise State in 2006, Petersen was offensive coordinator for the Broncos from 2001-05. During that time the Boise State offense featured one of the most potent attacks in the country, averaging 41.3 points per game while also finishing as the nation’s top scoring team twice (2002 and 2003). The Broncos also finished second (2004), eighth (2005) and 18th (2001) in the nation in scoring while Petersen was running the Broncos’ offense. During Petersen’s five seasons as offensive coordinator, Boise State finished in the top 15 in total offense four times, including three top-10 finishes – first in 2002, fourth in 2004 and seventh in 2003.

And he hasn't elevated the program in any way while he's been there, just kept rolling what Hawkins and Koetter had built:

                          Before Peterson:
Last undefeated season - 1958 as a junior college
                          Top 5 rankings - 0
                          Top 10 rankings - 0
Top 15 rankings - 3 (all while Peterson was OC)
                          Top 25 rankings - 3

                          Peterson's first five years:
                          Undefeated seasons - 2
                          Top 5 rankings - 2
                          Top 10 rankings - 3
                          Top 15 rankings - 4
                          Top 25 rankings - 4

He's on schedule to notch another top 10 ranking this season, maybe even top 5. By the way, he's doing this at Boise freakin' State. He might not be the best coach in the country, but I can't think of anyone I'd want more to run my program.

Big difference between running an offense and running a whole program. Ask Gary Crowton.

Sure, and Peterson's run his program at least as well as anyone else over the last six years.

Of course he is a cheater they just had sanctions brought against them. All these kids from the Netherlands just happen to play high school ball in Boise? If this was happening at any other school people would be all over them but since it is Boise and nobody cares the NCAA just lets it slide.
