I loved Wymount, just hated that BYU cable didn't carry espn. It did carry Canal+ from France which was fun to watch especially when they'd play commercials with fully nude women holding cups of yogurt. Come to think of it, I ate a lot of yogurt around that time."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. I'm pretty sure I watched the 01 game at pellegrino's old man's house. About the only thing I remember from that game, other than it being a kick in the nuts, is the unsportsmanlike penalty when Lelie I think it was punted the ball into the stands after a long TD.

So...I was just reading Harmon's article about how none of the current players have ever been to Hawaii, Bronco has never been to Hawaii as a BYU coach, etc.
They had a photo of Doman playing in Hawaii in 2001 as part of the article.
So is he one of the few guys (maybe add Reynolds and Tidwell?) who has been at BYU when BYU went to the islands for a game? Crazy.
Then I started thinking - I hope Doman is has a lasting memory of that 2001 game. I hope he spent the bye week working with the team and preparing them to return the favor of dropping 70 points on them. It seems like blow outs against Hawaii are a rare thing for the Y - but it would be nice to get one now.

Based on this article, I wouldn't be surprised to see Riley starting this saturday.
Then Nelson showed up at practice last week and started running around. Then he began throwing the ball. Then he ran plays.
Then doctors cleared him to fly to Hawaii, lifting a restriction due to pressurization of the airplane cabin and its effect on his condition.
Then came jokes that Nelson indeed would fly to Hawaii this week but he wouldn't be on any plane. He'd just take a few hops, leap in the air and be away, his cape flapping behind his head as he rocketed toward the rising sun.
Then, on Tuesday, BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall said medical experts "cleared" Nelson to play against Hawaii on Saturday and that if Nelson "felt" OK on game day, he would be on the field leading the Cougars against the Warriors.
No hint Mendenhall was joking when he gave the qualifier "if he felt OK."
It would take all the guns of the Pacific fleet to keep Nelson off the field in Aloha Stadium.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

The Hawaii student section has been bare the last three games. According to the UH athletic department, student attendance figures have dropped since the New Mexico State game: 456 students attended the Utah State game, 353 against Fresno State, and only 224 against Tulane. There was even talk of a student boycott that night.

Could BYU Hawaii could get more students to go to the game than UH?
Hopefully the free bus ride will help attendance.

Because its Friday I decided to slack off a little at work and channel my inner-Indy Coog. I run some different pass efficiency differential (PED) numbers and found the following:
Straight up PED for both teams favors BYU by 19.5
I then broke it out by QB (I gave the USU game to both QBs since both had a good enough number of stats to make them meaningful). The PED by QB is:
PED for Heaps is in his favor by 5.2
PED for Riley is in his favor by 53.8
Then I decided to break out Heaps by his early starts and his later starts (I'm considering the Idaho game to be his since Nelson left so early). Here's the breakout:
PED for Heaps' early starts favors Hawaii by 18.2
PED for Heaps' late starts favors Heaps by 73.7
Granted Heaps played some really, really bad teams in his later starts.
Just for kicks I ran Riley's PED without the Idaho State game, which closed the margin in his fvor to 28.7.
And last but not least the PED for Lark is 12.7. Yes, even with a rating of 62.7 Lark still has a positive PED thanks to how bad Idaho sucked in that game.
Bottom line is that we could likely start Jackson Brown and win this game."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. INteresting comparison. Does it include the fact that Hawaii's startign QB is out?Originally posted by Moliere View PostBecause its Friday I decided to slack off a little at work and channel my inner-Indy Coog. I run some different pass efficiency differential (PED) numbers and found the following:
