Amen. All that guy does is come in for his token carries and rips off big runs.I'm like LeBron James.

I don't know what he does. I hope he doesn't. But I don't know why he stays. When I think of Jake transferring because Riley Nelson is BYU's starting QB I feel sick.Originally posted by UtahJazzFan88 View PostSo you think Heaps isn't going to transfer?"Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Can't think of a player who has done more harm to BYU's program individually, Harmon's recent article pretty much said as much. Will be a big part of derailing BYU's perfectly set up QB pipeline so we have to start another friggin freshmen in 2013, and we will have 3 bad seasons in a row 2010/2011/2012 to show for the awesome Nelson era. Whose pumped for 2012? I am excited to get ready for the end of next year when we can pretend we are good football team again by beating the dregs of CFB by a lot, nevermind those pesky losses to Boise/ND/Utah/GT.Originally posted by Surfah View PostI don't know what he does. If we run Heaps off and Nelson loses to all 4 teams with a pulse next year, Nelson's whole career will be a joke, a sick joke played out on BYU's football program.Last edited by Hsaru; 12-03-2011, 10:01 PM.

While I can zoom out and get what you're saying, I would advise you to zoom in for a second and realize how insane this is. You are pissed at Riley because he outplayed the guy that you are convinced was going to lead BYU to glory. Yikes.Originally posted by Hsaru View PostCan't think of a player who has done more harm to BYU's program individually, Harmon's recent article pretty much said as much. I've been pumped for multiple BYU seasons only to be disappointed time and again. I've learned to wait and see what happens after the games before I determine the success or lack of, of the season. BYU might have a great season next year, they might not. Either way, if Heaps redshirts and stays around they won't have to start a freshman in 2013.Originally posted by Hsaru View PostCan't think of a player who has done more harm to BYU's program individually, Harmon's recent article pretty much said as much. Oh and perhaps you could explain how Nelson has harmed the program. He doesn't make the decisions on who plays and who doesn't. If anybody has harmed the program due to Nelson it would be Bronco and/or Doman. Or would you rather Nelson come in and purposely play like shit or should he simply turn down the opportunity to play? "No, coach, I'll pass on playing, we can't afford to have to start a freshman in 2013."I'm like LeBron James.

Come on, that's a bit much, isnt it? what, do you think the Ute CIA planted him in the program to upend BYU's plan for national success? So Heaps didn't work out; so maybe it is because he didn't work hard; maybe its because he just isn't that good. But isn't it a bit much to say Nelson has done harm ot the bYU program?Originally posted by Hsaru View PostCan't think of a player who has done more harm to BYU's program individually, Harmon's recent article pretty much said as much. Can't blame it on Nelson for the most part, the coaches deciding to ruin Lark's BYU career by lying to him and taking Nelson off his mission is the main thing after originally recruiting Lark over Nelson. I knew it was bad news the day I saw the Nelson transfer news. I liked watching Nelson at USU, knew he'd be nothing but trouble for the program when he transferred, and that was before I even knew who Heaps was.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI've been pumped for multiple BYU seasons only to be disappointed time and again. Only part that is Nelson's fault is the shameless team division he had no problem causing the past 2 seasons, don't kid yourself his shenanigans on the punt team and Bronco forcing Doman to include Nelson on offense goes a long way in keeping Nelson as the favorite QB of the defensive players and the upperclasmmen. Nelson and the upperclassmen were waiting for the first sign of weakness from Heaps before completely jumping off his bandwagon and rallying around Nelson.
Ravings of a mad man? Dick Harmon said all these exact same things in his article this week in less emotional language.

First of all, Dick Harmon is not a bastion of deep thought to be pointing to for support.Originally posted by Hsaru View PostCan't blame it on Nelson for the most part, the coaches deciding to ruin Lark's BYU career by lying to him and taking Nelson off his mission is the main thing after originally recruiting Lark over Nelson. With that out of the way, I still don't get it. Riley is better than Heaps this year. It's a simple fact. If Heaps isn't willing to recognize that and work harder because of it, or if he does recognize it, works his ass off, and still can't win the job next year, or if he decides that rather than getting his shit together he'd rather run away for a place where he thinks he won't have to compete for the spot, then blame Heaps. Blaming the coaches for playing the better player is asking them to make a decision that no coach should ever make. You don't intentionally win fewer games this year in the hope that it means you'll win more next year.

All I want is Heaps being given a chance to compete in spring, he will be told by Bronco that the job is Riley's and there will be no competition and he will leave like any QB with an ounce of talent should in Bronco's system where his own players say don't come to BYU if you want to go to the NFL, BYU doesn't care about that(Brian Logan, future GA).Originally posted by woot View PostFirst of all, Dick Harmon is not a bastion of deep thought to be pointing to for support.

Who is saying BYU should win fewer games to win more next year? Take Utah State out and Jake would have had an identical record as Riley. The last half of our schedule was pathetic aside from TCU and they're not special.Originally posted by woot View PostFirst of all, Dick Harmon is not a bastion of deep thought to be pointing to for support.

I will give you that. I would still hope that Heaps stays and redshirts if this is what he's told, but I wouldn't blame him.Originally posted by Hsaru View PostAll I want is Heaps being given a chance to compete in spring, he will be told by Bronco that the job is Riley's and there will be no competition and he will leave like any QB with an ounce of talent should in Bronco's system where his own players say don't come to BYU if you want to go to the NFL, BYU doesn't care about that(Brian Logan, future GA).
If Bronco actually does tell him that, then Bronco is seriously clueless, I mean even more than we all thought. The good coaches tell their players that every position is open, that no player has a guaranteed starting spot. This is true even in cases where it's obvious to everyone that some positions really are locked down. For instance, Bronco should absolutely tell guys like KVN, Apo, and Hoffman that their spot is up for grabs. That's what motivates kids to work their asses off all summer.
Somehow I doubt this is actually what Bronco will tell Heaps, but if it is it might explain why BYU players show up to fall camp looking fat and sloppy.

That's a debate we've already had, and it's at least arguable.Originally posted by Surfah View PostWho is saying BYU should win fewer games to win more next year? Either way, are you really expecting a coach to play the inferior player because he seems good enough to beat the trash on the schedule (except for TCU, which in your scenario Bronco would have conceded before the game) and you wouldn't want to sit him because he's too sensitive to be challenged? Especially in CFB, which is basically a beauty pagent?
In hindsight, these types of arguments are sort of understandable. Without this benefit, it's simply not reasonable to expect Bronco to have started the inferior player.

Not opening the starting job after Nelson's shittastic TCU game was a mistake, that right there turns Jake's transfer from not very likely to very likely. Can't make it any clearer that Bronco wanted nothing to do with seeing Heaps compete for the job against Riley.Originally posted by woot View PostThat's a debate we've already had, and it's at least arguable.
