I've also met people who confuse Mormons with Quakers. Pretty tight analogy, that.

Quite a few of the early ones were. (Including some of my ancestors.) They liked the relatively free-thinking approach of Mormonism and Joseph Smith, which was pretty radical at the time. Quakers have always been into freedom of conscience in a big way.
