I'm going to... and say he is not leaving tOSU... Dream job, and is a Ohio native.. Has been residing here for about a year already...

tOSU. The School where coaches retire from or are forcibly retired...

              Isn't that where we parked?

Oh, and I told you so.

Okay, I will play devils advocate....who is responsible for the mess that is going on at Florida? Is that Urban's baby? Urban did amazingly well with Zook's players (that Zook could not get jack out of), but the program has been at the lowest point in years these last two years, in spite of some really good recruiting classes. And the offense has sucked since Mullen left.

Obviously, Urban has won and done great things at 3 stops. But I still think those questions need to be asked.

Dan Mullen left after the 2008 season. The Gators went 13-1 in 2009 and finished 3rd in the nation. The offense was productive in 2009. That was also Meyer's 5th season in the program. Without looking at the roster, I'm guessing that it was mainly composed of his recruits, not Zook's recruits.

As for the current mess at Florida, I don't think Meyer can be blamed for Florida reaching and hiring Muschamp. Florida could have had almost anyone in the country they wanted and made a play for a guy that never had been a head coach. That isn't Meyer's fault.

Did Utah have a down year when he left? I think Whitt took over and did really well the following year and thereafter. BG can't really say if a new coach would of done well since it is not a top program and what he did there was I think a testament of the type of coach he is. Florida, I don't know. My Bro in Orlando says he had some lower recruiting years but I don't think that is true. I think the way he left abruptly can be to blame on how the players have reacted this year.. If UM was still at Florida that team is in the thick of things with LSU and Bama..

One thing is clear. When he leaves the program takes a hit. Is it because he is that great of a coach or is it because he leaves right before he knows it's going to be a down year..

I don't know. I'll let you know when he bolts for ND..

Utah went 7-5 the first year after Meyer left.

I agree with everything you say except that Florida would have been in the thick of it with Bama and LSU. Florida has some really good young defensive players, but the skill position players are way down. But what do you expect when God was your quarterback through the 2009 season.

I think a lot of great coaches know when the time to leave is. Since I am a Bama homer I will just mention that it was no coincidence that Gene Stallings left right before a collapse.

I think it is funny listening to Florida fans now complain about how Meyer said he was a Gator for life, that Florida was his dream job. Funny how similar they sound to the Utah fans when he went to Florida, and even the Bowling Green fans when he went to Utah. You would think people would learn about Urban...
