I have maybe told this story before, but your post reminds me of it.
In 1993 BYU played a home game against UTEP, a week after one of the 34-31 losses to Utah. My oldest brother decided not to go and that left me and cougswin with 2 extra tickets we needed to try and sell. I was 15 years old and was told that I got to keep any money I got from the sell, I was ready to be aggressive and make some cold hard ca$h.
We got there early and started pushing them for around face value, which seems to me was in the $20 range, dreaming of fat stacks in my pockets. After getting laughed at a few times, I reluctantly lowered my price to $10 a ticket. I eventually worked my way down to $5 for the pair, the dream of a big bankroll gone forever. I had a couple of kids on the hook and was ready to get that Lincoln and run away, then they said that better tickets were available for cheaper.
With kickoff fast approaching and my dreams dashed I decided that it would be fun to set the tickets on the double yellow line in the middle of the street, on the west side of the stadium. We stood back and watched the tickets sit there for a minute or two, then two kids age 9-12 ran up and grabbed them so excited. It made me happy that at least someone was going to get to use the tickets. However my joy was short lived, their parents saw what they had done and made them return the tickets to the yellow line in the middle of the street.
BYU won that game against UTEP and then should have beaten Ohio State in the Holiday Bowl. Someone, Nowatzke?, had an awful TD drop in the end zone.
My friend got called in to work so it looks like I'll be watching this game from home on some crappy internet feed that is 2 minutes slow. I don't get why games played on ESPNU aren't also available on ESPN3. If I remember correctly the last game played on ESPNU was broadcast on BYUTVI en espanol.
Again, whoever (whomever?) it was that got me to sign up for this ESPN account, you kick ass.
My post in the other thread? If so, the power of Google worked wonders, ESPN3 can always be bypassed one way or another. Sharing it isn't a big deal either since nobody can edit the account from what I tried to do.
