It is possible that SC is #1 when they roll into RES, which would make it the biggest game in Utah history.

Of course, BYU has already hosted a #1 team at home but this should be an exciting milestone for the Utes.

Just in case you're talking about me, just believe me when I say I've thought a lot about how I'd feel if the tables were turned, and I am very sure I wouldn't be feeling good. I try to keep that in mind, and I hope BYU gets into a good situation. I have too many loved ones in my life who are BYU grads and fans to feel any other way.

      Take that at face value.

True, but at least this will be a team that actually deserves the ranking.

What was Miamis rank to finish the season? I thought it was very high. Please clarify.

BYU has faced two #1 teams at home.

              Miami finished 3rd in 1990

              USC finished 1st in 2004

Finished ranked #3 after creaming Texas in the Cotton Bowl. 10-2 with losses @BYU and @ND. And for those who think football started in 1993, ND was good in 1990.

It was more in your general direction than at you. But I readily admit I am in the raging jealousy camp.

True about Miami. That was a great win for BYU. (I hereby turn down the heat on my flamethrower.) BYU lost to USC at home, 42-10. I hope the Utes do better.

Considering BYU was 5-6 in 2004, getting crushed by USC was to be fully expected. BTW, the 2004 BYU team was only of one of two teams in NCAA history to face 3 different teams that finished the season undefeated (Utah, Boise State and USC). The 2004 team wasn't particularly good, but they looked even worse given the level of competition they were up against. They did manage to beat Notre Dame at home in 2004 and were it not for a shanked FG with seconds on the clock would have defeated Boise State at Boise.

That Boise State game was on the blue rug. They wiped the LES turf with us the year before. Worst beating I have ever seen the Cougars take at home. Even worse than the Utah game last year. They at least looked like they were trying at times against Utah.

Berry tried to play with a bad hand in ice cold weather and then John Beck decided to break his own hand. Mortensen was about the most inaccurate QB in NCAA history going something like 5 for 24 and missing tons of wide open receivers, often on deep passese. Numerous turnovers, with two of them returned for TDs and then the defense wore down in the 4th quarter to make a hideous game even worse.

Amazingly, Boise only had 50 more yards of total offense in that game than BYU.

Using this method, since BYU finished 1st in 1984, I guess Utah has played a #1 team at home.

BYU wasn't ranked #1 until the following Monday. Miami and USC were both ranked #1 at the time they actually played BYU.

Apparently higher than I was aware. I was mostly making fun of pre-season rankings themselves but it appears that Miami may have actually desearved it. I will go back to my corner and begin eating crow.
