They showed the press conference (video!), then they had a British woman talking to a variety of reporters, some of whom were on campus. It's been on Anderson Cooper and Dr Phil for maybe 5 minutes."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

Perhaps others are writing as detached as they can as well.Originally posted by Jacob View PostSorry. I can't control how you interpret the words on the page. I was in favor of the school giving him the boot long ago. I just don't think he's the villain in all of this. But I can imagine that there very well may be more facts that would lead me to the conclusion that he is much more culpable that it seemed from the grand jury report, which I read.
Certainly Paterno is only a sub villain, far behind Sandusky and also behind McQ.Get confident, stupid

This whole thing just makes me sad. I walked in the bedroom tonight where my 4-year-old was laying in my bed after talking his mother into letting him fall asleep in our bed, talking to himself and singing himself to sleep. Then I thought of 8 little boys just like him, who were violated in some of the worst ways imaginable, and it was melancholy, not anger, that I felt. These poor kids will deal with this forever, and no matter who loses their job or goes to jail, nothing will undo the hell they experienced.
Surprisingly, I had similar feelings as I saw a picture of JoePa. His life is nearly over, and this is a hell of a way to go out. I feel bad that he made such a poor decision that potentially ruined lives, and I feel bad that he has to live out his twilight in regret. Nobody wins in this situation.sigpic

Same. On my way to work today it was on Mike and Mike and put me in a serious funk for the rest of the day.Originally posted by cowboy View PostThis whole thing just makes me sad. This story is so disturbing. Why the hell would McQueary not call the police immediately upon seeing a guy sodomizing a 10-year old? Why the hell would Paterno not tell McQueary to call the police immediately after hearing about it?
And if for some reason Paterno and McQueary thought they should initially report it up the chain of command within Penn State instead of to police, why the hell wouldn't they follow-up on it when nothing came of it? They didn't think Sandusky needed to be in jail?
Paterno deserves to have his legacy tarnished by this -- I don't care if he broke the law or not. What he and McQueary and their superiors did at Penn State was despicable and I'm glad they got rid of him. It's not like they had reason to doubt McQueary's story -- they believed him and they just didn't care.

Anonymous BCS official sez: PSU has received the Quasi Death Penalty
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-....column?page=1
Interesting point, but there is speculation that the new/interim school Prez might not even allow PSU to play in a bowl game. And bowl representatives are all horrified at the thought of having PSU darken their doors this post season.
Another issue: who becomes interim coach? The entire coaching staff has to be purged and most of the long-time coaching staff members have had associations with Sandusky in some form or another.
A clean break and fresh start is needed. PSU football literally has to be rebuilt from scratch.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

The outrage is as much about the culture at psu that allowed this to be swept under the rug. Paterno is as much responsible for the culture as anyone. The outrage is that Paterno allowed Sandusky to still have an office in the football facility for years after being told about the abuse in 2002. That Paterno allowed a culture of cronyism to exist at the detriment of at least 8 innocent children. Paterno said when the grand jury indictment first surfaced that he was shocked to hear about the allegations. How could he be shocked?????? He was told of abuse NINE YEARS AGO.Originally posted by Jacob View PostSorry. I can't control how you interpret the words on the page. I don't know how to write in a more detached manner. It can be debated what Paterno was legally required to do, and what he should have done with the info given to him. The outrage is that he coddled a pedophile for 9 years after being informed. He took no action to keep Sandusky out of his program. That inaction is as damning as what he didn't do in 2002.Last edited by Jarid in Cedar; 11-09-2011, 09:01 PM."The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."

Tom Bradley will be the interim. He succeeded Sandusky as DC.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostAnonymous BCS official sez: PSU has received the Quasi Death Penalty

But cleaning house at PSU will be a huge undertaking. Paterno has been there 61 years, and almost everyone with any power is there because of their connection with him.
It definitely has to start with McQuery. I've defended (or minimized) him in this thread, but the more I think about it, and the more I hear, he didn't do enough, and should be held culpable."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

this is the first time I've looked at this thread and I won't read the whole thing.
I just have to say that it's sad that all of this happened. It's sad for the victims, for Joe Pa, and for his players. I think this is what Steven Covey had in mind when he coined (or did he appropriate it from someone else?) the phrase "Lose lose situation."Dio perdona tante cose per un’opera di misericordia

Here is a good article for Jacob to read. It outlines in much detail several potential legal charges, both criminal and civil, that could and very well may likely be brought against Paterno (the civil stuff, especially).
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...&sct=hp_t11_a7
Apparently the media, the PSU BOT, much of the general public, and legal scholars disagree with Jacob's analysis...Paterno IS a villain in this case. Not THe villain. But definitely complicit to a certain degree....and in a case like this, being complicit to any degree is damning.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/ind...ctim_talk.htmlIn a parallel universe, going to class might be a nice distraction, to get her mind off the chaos surrounding the arrest of the man accused of molesting her brother.
But not as a junior at Penn State, where students are making jokes about being “Sanduskied.”
“I can’t escape it,” said the junior, whose brother was allegedly molested in a shower by former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky when he was 11.
“I’ve been going to minimal classes, because every class I go to I get sick to my stomach. People are making jokes about it. I understand they don’t know I’m involved and it was my brother, but it’s still really hard to swallow that.”
