  • I noticed at the half that the SEC homer announcers were already going with the "defensive battle" angle to justify the anemic offenses.

#1 and #3 in scoring defense coming into the game. Of course the offenses look mediocre.

      • Not sure if this was posted already but Broyles from Oklahoma tore his ACL. That hurts.

Notice I said "are" mediocre, not "look" mediocre. The point is that both mediocre offenses seem to be especially cautious this game, causing their offenses to be even more neutered than usual.

          • UCLA/Arizona State and K-State vs Ok. State are all great options to those who consider the LSU/Bama game to be a snoozer.

And yet one of those anemic offenses helped torch the supposed best team in the PAC-12 earlier this year on a neutral site. Also, the Big East's (yes, I know) supposed best team too, on the road.

I'm thinking this really is about the defenses, although (to be frank) I think LSU has been a bit lucky so far. Bama had three good drives that should have resulted in points but for poor special teams (I realize the FGs were long).

Both teams have great defenses but good to great offenses should still be able score points. Oregon and EVIL both scored 21 points and more against LSU. The only decent offensive team Alabama has played is Arkansas.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

That is what caused the missed field goals?

Oregon scored more than 3 points on LSU. I guess we can gather than Oregons offense is light years ahead of Alabamas offense.

What were the turnover margins in those games? At least with the Oregon game, LSU forced a ton of turnovers. These coaches arent stupid, they know they're similar teams and they live off turnovers.

True. Too bad they don't give you wins for having a better offense than somebody down the road on your opponent's schedule.

another 3 and out. I wonder how far those ranking will drop after tonight.

                                Field goals are special teams.
