The 54-10 posts are generally in response to BYU trolling. No one is trying to use that game to validate anything.

Right. It's kind of our way of saying "you guys have no standing to ridicule us." And we are right about that.

We might not have standing to ridicule you as a group, but certainly on an individual basis we do.

You use your opponent's mascot as an avatar?

                    • The 54-10 has no reflection on either team's season at this point. Utah actually had Wynn who was fairly decent enough to get them to a bowl game before he got injured, and BYU was god awful terrible with Jake Heaps at QB as well. Both are two different teams at this moment. I'm a Utes fan, but I really do think I think if they played the game on Saturday, BYU would probably end up winning with Riley at QB.

                        • Game is on directv channel 687. Once again I get to watch the UTES. Sports package for direct is awesome. I heard from a friend that Toby Bergstrom has the OLine and Hays ramped up for this game. I have no idea who his source is but I do know that he's friends with Aaron Roderick.

                          • i am too lazy to look. what injuries do we have to our offensive line? are we finally getting back to being healthy along the front?

i watched the cal game again and noticed the obvious. hays was rushed and sacked and hurried b/c Cal blitzed constantly and stacked the box. As soon as Hays starts connecting to receivers, we can get back to playing football rather than stagnating every possession. in the first possession of the game, hays hit Reggie Dunn on a 20 yard pass play on third and long, but that was followed up by a sack and a 4 yard JW IV run, and an incomplete pass to Matthews.

Second possession, score still 0-0, JW IV runs for 2 yard loss, then 6 yard pass to Dres, followed by a sack. on the sack, it looked like Hays was going to sit in the pocket and attempt a pass, but the pressure was too great for the line to hold. if Utah had picked up the pressure and Hays had completed that pass, maybe Cal would have changed their defensive scheme to account more for the pass.

utah must get the pass game going to get defensive pressure away from hays. it's hays only chance, and hence the utes only chance. i know this reiterates what has already been said, but if Chow can figure a way to get a balanced offense going, Utah will be back in these games in the third quarter and able to keep the defenses honest.

i know hays probably couldn't handle this, but what about going to a 2 minute no huddle type of offense early on. strike hard, strike fast, keep the defense off-balance and establish the passing game. seems like we have to establish the passing game in order to open up the run game and not the other way around.

also, why not use Star as a RB a few times like the refrigerator. (just kidding)

                            • I read that Utah has given up over 20 sacks already this season. poor kid, it isn't all hays fault when he is getting such crappy protection. Maybe a hurry up would help.
                              Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

He isn't getting much protection, but some of those sacks happened because he held onto the ball too long.
