I'm fine with starting Heaps next week. I want to see how responds. I like how much clock we cqn chew up marching down the field. Keep th eotgerteam i atriking distance until the 3rd and bring in riley to run On the Defenses tired old legs. Im not in favor of trading series, however.

Hopefully Jake has come back down to reality. Im all for letting him redshirt next year if he doesnt improve against TCU and in the bowl game.

I don't remember that. Was Beck sitting merely because he was hurt? If so, it wouldn't seem to relate to this situation.

I'm fine if he does as well. However I do not think it's going to happen.

How would you address the problems Jake is having?

Whether he can be reclaimed or not, I know not. I do think some adults blew it big time though.

How do you take a kid that looks pretty good last year as a freshman, albeit some of it against weak competition, to a kid that gets rave reviews from the adults during spring and especially fall camp to a complete dud when the season starts.

The players will play harder for Riley?? Band of brothers my butt. Or the play harder for Riley is bogus and cancel the "band of brothers my butt" comment.

I would love to sit down with Lance Reynolds and ask him what the heck has happened over the last few years.

I only remember Ja. Beck playing at USU because Jo. Beck was hurt. Maybe there was another time. Ja. Beck did have a great game, though.

I'm with a lot of those suggestions except Jake addressing the team. That in itself screams prima donna. Why should he get to address the team? What he should do is get in the huddle, call out his teammates, throw some strikes, kick some ass, and spit some fire. Let him sit in the pocket and go through his progressions like a competent quarterback. If he happens to get hit, he needs to grab his tackle by the facemask and tell him to shape the fk up. You know? Play football.

I think Jake's problem is that he has his eye fixed squarely on the NFL and he's quite ironically not willing to blow his shot by getting hurt in college. That much is obvious to me the way he does the most pussy QB slide in D-I, the way he didn't fall on the ball vs. Utah, and the way he lets the ball fly as soon as he hears footsteps. I need to see Jake get some grass in his helmet and maybe some stitches in his chin. He's playing "prevent D" with his quarterback career and it's really screwing him. He really does need to have the "one game at a time" mentality and let his coaches turn off the faucet if he's giving too much at a time.

The playing harder for Riley thing may just boil down to respecting Nelson's approach to the game once he got a chance. Nelson's proclivity to go balls out and put his body on the line may have inspired them to dig just a little deeper. If true that's a leadership issue and something that maybe Heaps could learn from Riley.

He had ankle injury but had it before and after the game he sat. It is different but the effects could be similar.

You hit the nail on the head that a new QB coach is needed. Thats why i want him ti redshirt. Take some time with a mentor, regain confidence and use his tools effectively.

As to your first point the approach may backfire. To do this he would have to command the respect of his line. At this time I do not think he has their respect and acting this way may not only cause them to lose even more respect and might end with one of them yanking Jake's jock over his head.

Your second point provides a lot of food for thought. This goes hand in had with my take that he should shed the green jersey.

If Riley or one of the other backups proves to be an adequate placeholder then redshirting Heaps may be a great option. I wonder if he's humbled enough to be amenable to it.

I think he needs a real good psychologist, sports or otherwise. He needs some lights in his head to go off.

He doesn't need a chat with his FB coach or ecclesiastical leaders regarding what is going on in his head. They have proven they can't help so far.

If I'm him I address the team prior to Monday's practice stating that I'm willing to support whatever the coaches decide regarding the QB situation even if it means I don't play a down for the rest of the season. I would also offer congrats to Riley and pledge to support him in any way possible should he be chosen to start. Then I would state clearly that I will work even harder in practice, rededicate myself to film study, and try to have a better demeanor at all times. Jake needs to appear humble and earn back that trust. It wouldn't hurt of news of Jake's pre-practice speech leaked to the media so the fans could perceive the change in attitude and start lining up behind him again.
This could be dangerous if it's not sincerely delivered. If he truly feels that way, then have at it. If not, then he needs to keep his mouth shut and earn the job back. If he earns it back and his gameplay improves, then the team will eventually hop on his side. But one thing that I think must happen is that the coaches have to step in and remind players that football isn't a democracy. Regardless of who is selected as the starting qb, full effort is expected. It was mentioned elsewhere, but the Ogletree comments are destructive to a team. What's worse is that it Bronco enabled that attitude by going public with it.

Agreed on your take that anything Heaps does from this point forward needs to be sincere. I have a hunch he's appropriately humble at this point. If not I'm sure it would be easy for the coaches to put together a nice lowlight real for the film room.

I the Ogletree's thoughts were very much in line with what a frustrated football player would say. This goes double for a frustrated inside linebacker who BM described as, "twisted". Most inside linebackers have a screw loose.
