Heaps has an arm, but he doesn't have "it".
I think running Kariya straight ahead behind Zed Mendenhall against physically inferior teams is going to work.
6 PM starts on workdays really suck for us SLC folks.
What the hell is Rod Gillmore calling Manumaleuna as I watch this broadcast? He's putting a couple of 't's in his name.

The sideline out is a nightmare. Heaps has the arm to make the throw and yet he is completely off right now. Fix that and it makes a huge difference in the rest of the passing game. Also, after Apo left the game, BYU WR's struggled to get open and that was with single coverage on the outside. Almost every play, UCF safeties completely ignored the outside receivers. When you can't ever beat single coverage the QB is not going to look good. I'm not excusing the struggles Heaps is having right now, but the receivers outside of Apo aren't helping matters. Maybe it will look different on tv, but that was what I saw from the north end zone.A man who views the world the same at fifty as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life. - Mohammad Ali

I can deal with heaps not hitting the mid to deep outs; that's a very difficult throw to make. What kill me are the plays like overthrowing an open JJ after not seeing a wide open Hoffman, or not even coming close to hitting receivers in stride. We saw what Hoffman can do with a little space. It would be nice to have the ball in the air as he breaks to take advantage of that.Originally posted by CJF View PostThe sideline out is a nightmare. That's funny, I thought he looked slow on that run.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostAgreed. It's not going to be on ESPN's Top Ten, but he was running away from everybody and his speed looked legit.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

How are they different. With every week that passes, the offense looks more and more like Anae's. The only difference to start with was that we were under center more, did more play action, and rolled out the QB more. We still had all the same plays, the tendencies just changed. It's trending back the other way. More shotgun/splits on passing downs.Originally posted by BemidjiCoug View PostI feel like Heaps was more comfortable in Anae's system.

Same. I've looked at Hoffman as a typical BYU possession receiver in a black man's body. But he seemed to show some speed on that return.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostMaybe I need to watch it again, but I remember him running away from little guys on a team that seemed to have pretty good speed.

Coming into this game, ucf had the 3rd rated scoring defense in the nation. While ucf might have fallen to fiu last week, the team byu beat last night was no slouch. Nice win cougs. I'm surprised this thread isn't being more lit up into the wee hours of the morning.

I liked the 320 lb D line last week against Utah. It was a strategic move specifically to stop a power running team with a struggling QB. And we got out of of it on passing downs. Brilliant.
I HATE the 320 lb D line against a fast team with small O line and an athletic, running QB!! Come on, Bronco.
This D looks pretty awesome with two NT's, Frazier lined up at DE, and Van Noy and Pendleton at OLB's. This D looks pretty slow and meh when it lines up three 300+ DL's, and Frazier and Van Noy at OLB. Even worse when they have Van Noy subbed out and the same combo but Wagner in Van Noy's spot. BLAH. I saw Goat's boy Alani Fua in there. He looks like he can move. He's listed at 6'5 206. I thought Goat thought he was a future RB? 6'5 RB?

Uh, Jay, did you see the size of some of their backs? They may have been fast, but they definitely had a power run feel to it as well. I thought BYU did a fairly decent job of containing their running QB. Yes, he got two TDs, but one came from the one yard line. In total they had 81 yards rushing. I gotta admit, bitching about scheme when you hold a team to 81 rushing yards when they average close to 200 per game? Not really good form.Originally posted by jay santos View PostI liked the 320 lb D line last week against Utah. It was a strategic move specifically to stop a power running team with a struggling QB.
