Since I wouldn't see the BW game anyway, I like the idea they're going to use the whole week, and that particular day, gameplanning and prepping for OU. It may provide some useful patterning for the offseason vs. the near waste of time the BW represents. Given the cost, unavailability, or crappiness of alternative sites, I'm fine with this. Of course, if BYU is down by 4 TDs midway through the first half in Dallas, I retain the right to rescind this post and blame Bronco for lousy planning.

I'm sure they could hold it at Provo or Timpview High.Originally posted by CJF View PostMoving the game is problematic. What locations are available? High School fields? Rice Eccles? The new soccer stadium? If anyone were to get injured on a high school field he would never hear the end of it. Rice Eccles? Ummm....yeah, Dr. Hill and Whittingham are going to open up for that. Soccer stadium would cost money. It's a spring game and not a cash producer. The only thing I can think would be bring in some temporary seating into the IPF and only allow them to play about 30 yards worth of field. Not a good solution either. I'm not sure why they couldn't wait a few weeks to start the field make over, and maybe this was part of Bronco's plan, but moving it doesn't seem like a good option. I'd rather they spend the time working on Oklahoma anyway."Remember to double tap"

I didn't say they couldn't. But do you really want to risk a player stepping on a field that isn't being carefully maintained. I highly doubt that the Timpview or Provo fields are in great shape. One knee or ankle injury to a starter and people would be calling for Bronco's head.Originally posted by venkman View PostI'm sure they could hold it at Provo or Timpview High.A man who views the world the same at fifty as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life. - Mohammad Ali

I don't think it's a big deal - the high school fields can't be that bad.Originally posted by CJF View PostI didn't say they couldn't. Timpviews field is brand new, it is field turf and is actually a lot nicer than BYUs.Originally posted by CJF View PostI didn't say they couldn't. Yeah it's a nice field. Wouldn't be many seats for fans, however.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostTimpviews field is brand new, it is field turf and is actually a lot nicer than BYUs."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? I dont think it would be to hard to bring in some temporary bleachers and place them around the track. Or just have standing room around the track. I think it would be better than nothing.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostYeah it's a nice field. Wouldn't be many seats for fans, however.*Banned*

Imagine the struggle Bronco is dealing with right now. On one hand, the spring game is a tradition. On the other, playing the game at LES is tradition. With the field unfit for play, what's a traditionalist to do?

If he was smart he would play it in RIO tinto stadiumOriginally posted by TripletDaddy View PostI think what we are seeing is another confusing lesson in Broncology (the study of all things Bronco Mendenhall related).
As you said, the Spring game serves only one purpose.....generate hype/pub. Be it for the fans or the media, the team wants to give a little preview, generate buzz, and ultimately sell more tickets/merch for the upcoming season.
Bronco wants to cancel it.
OK, Bronco, I can be reasonable. Give me your reason why you want to cancel it? Did the players take a vote? Did the Prophet tragically pass away the day before the game? Was there a 9-11 event in NYC?
No. It turns out that the sod in Cougar Stadium won't be ready.
So here is an idea. Have it somewhere else. And instead of playing somewhere else as "last resort," sell it like a cool change of pace. Use it as a marketing ploy. Go up to SLC and play your spring game there. Infiltrate the enemy market, a la The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Use it as a spring board for more ticket sales and leverage your fantastic schedule as a means to generate hype.
I just don't understand Broncology. I really don't. It seems like Bronco takes the easiest things and turns them into the most dififcult problems."Be a philosopher. Yes, but an AD cannot operate in a vacuum. Technically, coaches don't schedule opponents, either, but no AD will put together an OOC game without serious consultation with the coach. Holmoe defers to Bronco in this, no doubt.Originally posted by beelzebabette View PostRealizing I don't know what I'm talking about, wouldn't it be an athletic director's job to arrange something like this and a head football coach's job to show up with the team?Fitter.
