  • WHile I find this thread entertaining and funny, I think it's really mis-directed.

ADs aren't the ones that make these decisions. It's Conference commissioners and school presidents.

Maybe BYU is different. Maybe the re-alignment stuff was passed DOWN the chain to Holmoe, but that would seem oddly out of character for BYU. Most things at BYU go a step UP the ladder from where they are at other schools.

I think the anger expressed at Holmoe is probably unfair. That guy is an athlete...a jock. Football and sports have been his life. Do you really think a guy like that misunderstands the BIG12/BCS/BYU/Independence/the future?

Your anger should be directed higher. Sameulson may be to blame. But, again, for years, people have said that the President of BYU is really just a figurehead.

Perhaps Holmoe is the lowest hanging fruit. You can criticize an AD. But you can't as easily criticize an emeritus GA or the BOT that includes various GAs.

I think Holmoe did his best. I think Holmoe is probably as frustrated as most of you. This wasn't his folly.

I think almost everyone realizes this, especially in the B12 expansion thread.

Lebowski doesn't speak Utonian. He was saying the same thing in Cougarese.

Conference commissioners and school presidents? What makes you say that?

In pretty much every instance of realignment, the final decision comes after the BOT meets. In the case of Mizzou, it is the board of curators. The university president isn't empowered to make such a decision.

TCU received an invite...why didn't it accept immediately? BOT had to meet.
OU wanted to jump to the PAC. BOT had to give permission to the president to explore all situations.

In fact, in almost every instance, including aTm, the BOT had met to empower the president to investigate and come back to the BOT, but never to make a decision solo.

                Maybe I'm misunderstanding your point.

How is that not Tom's fault? If everything you do is micromanaged by managers who don't even understand your job, they reject your recommendations, and don't listen to the assumptions you tell them should be included in the analysis (such as the limitations in scheduling and the eventual degradation of the program over time), then how is the responsible action NOT what Rhondo did? How can you stay in your job year after year and smile and act like a nice guy and enable this kind of dysfunction?

Easy, believe those that are micromanaging are inspired and serve a higher purpose.
Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

lol. Santos, knock it off. Maybe you stay in the job because you like it, you need to earn a living, you love the school, it can be a fun job, etc.

Lots of people deal with heavy handed bosses. You are advocating quitting under adversity.

I agree TH is staying in the job because he likes the income and the perks of the job. He's a super nice guy. I also believe he's nothing less than an enemy to the program right now. We need someone in that role with some balls. Not a super nice guy who will kiss butt and say yes to everything his superiors say.

I don't know TH, but if what you are saying is true and he were to quit on principle. BYU would not hire someone with balls, they would hire another person that does what they are told. If they did hire someone with a rude 'tude that didn't want to take any guff from anyone, he would be dismissed and the next guy that followed marching orders would be hired.

I understand, they would hire unqualified yes men. Just like the last two hires they made after Rhondo. And if the yes men was super nice, he would placate BYU fans into supporting him and just shrug everything difficult off "hey we did our best." "we gave it the old college try."
