        You're killing me PAC.
        Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

when are you guys going to get a decent homie? (except the mercy game the Utes give you). You know, even big sky teams can score roadies against BCS teams).

          • I'm celebrating this win tonight like it's 1999.

I think I need to take advantage of the opportunity.

It is evident that Norm was only going to open the playbook just enough to win prior to the USC game. Wynn was bound to be very rusty and timid. The Utes should be able to make some much needed corrections this coming week and implement some new offense against USC.
After tonight's game and another week of hearing it from the media, coaches, and fans, Wynns confidence should be sky high as he runs down the tunnel of the Coliseum past the "For Whom The Bell Tolls" sign.

                  • The first 3 quarters were fine tonight. I would've liked to see the Utes string together a 6-minute drive to ice the game in the 4th.

Nothing has been definitively proven, but the defense looks good; the kicking game appears to be ok; and the offensive line was pretty good, especially considering the injuries and inexperience. I'm extremely grateful for the two extra days of preparation and recuperation.

I doubt that signs affect a QB's confidence.

I doubt Wynn even knows what the hell that means.

I think the Detmer comparisons were lost on him. My guess is he has no clue who Ty Demter even is.

I think the guy floats around in his own world.

                          • Stuff I liked:
                            • The weather was perfect, the atmosphere terrific. For a Ute fan, there's nothing better than a clear, cool end-of-summer night in a completely sold-old RES that is a sea of red.
                            • John White. I'm looking forward to watching that guy. He's tough and quick.
                            • It looks like the secondary and linebackers are strong. Huge relief if I'm right.
                            • Getting a chance to chat with both BoylenOver and Portland Ute at the game.
                            • Hey, we throw to the tight ends now, and it works!
                            • Hey! We have a placekicker. I think. He looked good tonight. One 37-yard FG and one 44-yarder.
                            • No fumbles, no drops, no INTs.
                            • Blechen.

                            Stuff I didn't like:
                            • Wynn's passing. No zip on the ball. A couple of muffed short throws that reminded me of last year. He threw into triple coverage once. I am hoping that it's all just a combination of rust and Chow not opening the playbook, but I am not convinced that's all it is.
                            • Two Wynn sacks, if I counted right. This is on the o-line.
                            • Utah's D-line didn't put much pressure on the MSU QB -- what did they get, one sack? And that was a DB blitzing. Still, the MSU QB is a fast scrambler type. He still had far too much time to throw. We also seemed to overpursue.

This could be a 7 or 8-win team, but they could be a 4 or 5-win team too. The USC game might not be pretty. I'm hoping for a good showing and that Wynn will step up to his Detmerian destiny as proclaimed by the NormChow.

One of the Wynn sacks was a horrible blitz pick-up by Vakapuna.

And for our defense, we had 3 sacks, but one was Lacy, and another was McGee falling down with Shelby pressuring him. I'm also disappointed with the pressure applied by the front 4.

You're too down on Wynn and too high on White. White hasn't proven anything yet. He's fast, but fast guys are a dime a dozen - superior teams can always run the football on far lesser teams. That's football 101 - if you are playing against an overmatched opponent like that, you can always fall back on the ground game. Hell, Funk, you could have run for 100+ tonight against that team behind Utah's O-line. White might be great, he might be awful, but you know nothing based on this game other than he's fast - but you knew that coming in.

On the other hand, while Wynn struggled, it's just one game - his first under a new OC - a shitty, delusional, old, OC at that. If I'm a ute fan, I still worry more about the run game than the pass game (assuming Chow can be somewhat competent this season). Wynn has proven he can get it done at a fairly solid level. The running game...nothing.
