Brigham Young after somewhat successful counseling session. He will be summoned back next week for his over-the-collar haircut and wearing sandals without socks.

In which picture was he a prophet or was he in both.

I prefer the Santa Clause picture myself. But both of them have that sort of eery, "When ya gonna introduce me to your daughter?" look about them.

Or maybe he just sent a letter stating, "I just got sealed to your wife in the St George temple, as you were an unfaithful servant and didn't finish that temple in SLC. Please send her to me forthwith to have her marriage consumated."

This same statue stands in front of the Maeser Building at BYU. I believe the inscription below reads something like, "Place me behind prison walls--walls of stone ever so high, ever so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground--there is a possibility that in some way or another I may escape and shave my beard; but stand me on the floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it to go to the ELWC Barber Shop. Can I get out of the circle? No. Never! I'd die first!"

Ok, then BYU isn't misleading anyone. They are just presenting the BY look they prefer.

Hey, so when did they start letting BYU students start growing mustaches?

Kids these days... I had to wear socks with my sandals when I was there.

Brigham didn't start growing his beard until quite a few years after he had settled in the valley of the Great Salt Lake.

Jesus wouldn't be caught dead making that fashion faux pas. I also believe the paintings of Jesus on campus should show him seemly shaven and serendipitously sporting socks on his sandal-shod Size Sevens.

With the dress code as a part of the honor code, complicated by the fact that the school is owned by the church, it creates confusion regarding the church's position on morality, worthiness, and dress and grooming. Since the church doesn't have concrete rules on dress and grooming, but it DOES have concrete rules on the law of chastity and the word of wisdom, leaving the two together in the same document raises more questions than it needs to. Just separate the two and then people won't walk around wondering if the prophet is trying to tell us something without actually telling us. Then maybe we can stop hearing of these stake president talks where they say that white shirts are doctrinal, even though they aren't "doctrinal." It would help make things clearer for everybody.

So let's say, just as a hypothetical, a violation came up that involved some trading of tattoos for autographs... Would that fall under the dress code or the honor code?

                            Neither?

As I understand it, that would be an NCAA violation, not an honor code or dress code violation. Thus they would simply lose their eligibility to play on the team. I could see BYU permanently banning them from the sport in an effort to appease the NCAA who may choose to take action against BYU themselves if they didn't come down hard on them, but I don't see any justification for any further action there. No reason they can't keep going to school, unless they were also trading autographs for better scores in the testing center. Unless BYU also kicks people out of school for having tattoos, which I don't think they do.

Ah, I tricked you. I said nothing about the hypothetical student playing a sport but getting a tattoo while a student is an honor code infraction....

BYU policy permits students to have tattoos but counsels against getting them while studying at the university.

Getting one while student does count as an Honor Code infraction.
So I think the correct answer is honor code, or maybe it is dress code. I still don't know.

Well that's just it: As it stands it is an honor code infraction, but probably under the dress and grooming portion of it. Hence, if things were done how I'm suggesting, it would probably be a dress code issue. I still think it is very funny that they would try to regulate the GETTING of tattoos while at BYU. Ha. Makes me want to go get one right now. The thing is, this is what's so freakin screwy about the BYU honor code. It's like someone took a page right out of Bruce R. Mckonkie's heretical works and formed the thing word for word from him. I'm willing to bet that playing cards aren't allowed on campus either, if you looked into it hard enough. The honor code could be SUCH a good thing, but they've made it nothing but tripe if you ask me.
