This is your best bet. I checked last week and there were tickets in the thundering herd area above the tunnel. That is a fun section.

As Utah continues to play there, you will want to start a tailgate tradition on campus. But for your first go round, just get there early enough to hang out and enjoy your day, walk around and talk to people, and check stuff out. Resist the urge to just show up an hour or early then go to the stadium and sit there to watch players throw the ball around. Boring!

And don't forgot...bacon wrapped hot dog with everything (including jalapeno) after the game.

Let me know what day you will get there if you want to some restaurant ideas.

typically there is just a crimson club "tailgate" before the game. i haven't read or heard that anything is being put on by the LA alumni base, but maybe there is.

ugh. that sounds like something they are going to do over at the Coliseum or Expo Park at the same time that everyone should be on campus checking stuff out. skip that, please. If you guys can at all swing it, go to the Jock Rally on Friday night. If you are looking for a nice dinner Fri night, there are plenty of options.

I have heard from people in the U. administration that they recognize that this game is not business as usual and they need to step up their game from the usual pre-game barbecue. (They're right, IMO.) There is a big dinner planned for Friday night but that's for Crimson Club high-rollers, mainly those already in the greater L.A./Orange/Ventura/Riverside County area. Beyond that, I know not.

You're right, for those staying close to the Coliseum (and even those who are not) there are tons of terrific dining options. All: If you're around on Friday at noon, you should go to Philippe's so you will understand what DDD is talking about when that comes up.

there is no equivalent here in SLC. I can't deal with french dipped sandwiches that come with a side of au jus in a bowl or cup. and where are the chili peppers? where is the hot mustard?

In re Ute BBQ, a Friday night soiree is a great idea. One of the coolest things Ute fans will notice about being out of the Allah-forsaken MWC is that real schools with real tradition do a lot of fun things for game weekend. The Utes will undoubtedly begin to quickly adapt, "stepping up their game," so to speak with more activities, dinners, band performances, and everything else that goes along with playing these big time schools. This inevitable increase in quality is yet another reason to be excited about the promotion to the PAC.

As for a game day BBQ, I don't think it is a matter of the Crimson Club putting on an extra nice spread of food or bringing more cheerleaders to the game than normal (they should be doing this anyway), it is simply a question of taking advantage of being at SC. BYU puts on similarly uninspired road game tailgates....standard food, lots of old people, lots of little kids, Cosmo shows up, there is a merch tent, and maybe there is a band playing music. All of that is great. But if you have just traveled 800 miles to go to the SC game, why w.a.s.t.e. time hanging out at the Ute tailgate? Go see the other school and what they do on their home turf. Ute fans can hang with other Utes at all the home games.

That is my approach to roadies, anyway. I don't bother with firesides and I don't bother with BYU tailgates because I can do and see all of that in Provo. Also, the BYU tailgates are pretty anemic, truthfully. Come to think of it, I do go to the SC road functions because they are actually fun and they do cool things....Pep Rally at Union Square for the Weekender, SC train from Chicago
to South Bend and Pep rally at Navy Pier, etc.

It would be a shame to go to the SC game and spend 1-2 hours under a Ute pup tent in the parking lot of the Coliseum talking to fellow Utes about how great it is to finally be at SC, and then not really spend the right amount of time actually at SC.

Just my suggestion, anyway. The people in Alumni Square and elsewhere are very friendly and enjoy welcoming gracious guests. I think everyone senses that Utah is very excited to be a part of the PAC and it will be novel and fun to host the Utes and the Buffs when they come to campus. I'm hopeful that vibe comes across when everyone descends on campus.

i love going to other school's and mingling with their fans. i did it at oregon and also at ucla. awesome experience. loved the fans wherever i went. when i was at the 'cuse, i loved roadies to morgantown and vatech... great fans to chat with and hang with before a game.

i don't plan on doing the pre-game crimson club picnic this time around. i did it in oregon and only spent about 15 minutes there b/c it was ridiculous.

i will be following the ddd gameplan and hanging out with some ute friends before the game.

i'm all over that bacon wrapped salty meat especiale that you are referring to after the game, ddd. sweet!
