Welcome to the Big 12. I wouldn't pay it for those seats. No way.

If you are hitting 6th street then be sure to check on the live music schedules to see who is playing where.

In Austin there is something for everyone when it comes to live music. In fact, I think Austin City Limits Music Festival is sometime in september.

The bats should still be in Austin in September. They usually take off around from under the congress ave bridge around sundown for their nightly feeding. That is always fun to watch once.

Other ideas: Texas state history museum, Zilker park and botanical garden, boat ride on the river/lake travis, Babs house, etc.

If you have your kids and have a day you may want to plan a trip down to Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels (south of austin toward san antonio). It is one of the better water parks in Texas.

        • lol. Triplet, I guess you could always google "what to do in Austin" yourself.

Uncle Ted, how long has it been since you lived in Austin?

I have never lived in redneck-hippy town. I just visit a lot with all my kids and their state music competitions, football/swim camps, etc. Also, I used to work for a company that had an office there that I would visit now and then. We were thinking about buying some property on lake travis and relocating at one time when I was looking at taking a job with a company just north of there.

Lesson number one: It's ACL, not Austin City Limits. Nobody will take you seriously if you ask about Austin City Limits.

Fortunately for you guys, you're missing ACL by a week. If you were here the same weekend, you wouldn't be able to find a room in town for anything. I don't think they ever do ACL on game weekends.

I can't make ACL anyway. I'm going to be partying at The Grove (not the Sacred Grove, of course ), saying Hotty Toddy, and rocking a blue blazer and tie at Ole Miss.

Wow, that'll be nice to be at a school with a ton of football history and gameday tradition.

For the record, I didn't anticipate serving as the resident travel writer for Austin. In fact, the mere thought pains me greatly. Regardless, I'll post some suggestions later this week, after I catch up with work.

Yes, in texas its ACL. Outside of texas no one knows what you are talking about if you say ACL. If I say ACL to one of my co-workers in Cali they think I am talking about an Access Control List.

On that note, nobody from California calls it Cali.

See! Texans and Cali's don't even speak the same language.

Good news! I found something! UT has its own version of heritage hall, one that it cleverly named "the trophy room." You college football junkies may want to stop by. Unless you're a USC fan, in which case you might want to steer clear of the epic wall-sized mural of Mack lifting the crystal football.
