  • Turn out the lights...the Fiesta is over.....

Do you think it is likely that the BCS severs ties with the Fiesta Bowl?

    http://msn.foxsports.com/collegefoot...ta-Bowl-033011

Personally, I don't see it as any reason at all to sever ties, simply because the current bowl administration is crooked. A simple house cleaning would do the trick.

I wonder if this is posturing for the bigger prize....the Cotton. Now that the Cotton will have access to the most luxurious and high profile football stadium in the country, makes sense that the BCS would want in. And this gives them the perfect excuse to overreact and jump ship on the Fiesta.

I never understood the B12 tie to the Fiesta anyway. The game is played in a PAC town. Moving to the Cotton puts the game in the heart of B12 territory.

University of Phoenix stadium is an amazing edifice. If they want to get rid of a bowl they should get rid of the Sugar Bowl. The Superdome is really not that cool and it's old. The SEC/BIG 12 can play in the Cotton Bowl and BYU can have the tie in to the Fiesta Bowl.

Keep the Fiesta, add the Cotton... and turn them all into the BCS playoffs for the National Championship.

Booo!!! The sugar bowl the best bcs bowl. I actually hope the fiesta gets booted from the bcs. That gives one more big bowl to the pac-12.

Yes, if anyone can save the BCS in this troubling time it's Jerry Jones. It's either this or let Mark Cuban kill the BCS with his "Radical Football" and silly playoffs.

Interesting article. Methinks the "Task Force" is a joke by who is on the task force (per this article)...

The Cotton Bowl will definitely be part of the BCS. Back in the day of the SWC, the major bowls were Rose (PAC/Big 10), Orange (Big 8), Sugar (SEC), and Cotton (SWC). The Fiesta Bowl was a late comer to the New Year's Day party and took the place of the Cotton Bowl when the BCS came about because the Fiesta had more modern facilities and was deemed a better location (plus they probably greased some palms). The Orange Bowl saved itself by changing venues and conference tie in but the Cotton Bowl had no such luck. It was stuck in a toilet of a stadium in a bad part of town- similar to the Orange Bowl but the Cotton bowl stayed put and lost the SWC conference tie in. With the BCS, the Big 12 was more than happy to leave the Orange Bowl for the Fiesta Bowl. But now Jerry's palace is the new Mecca and the Big 12 wants the Cotton Bowl back.

My guess is that the following will occur: Rose (PAC-12/Big 10), Orange (ACC or Big E), Sugar (SEC), Cotton (Big 12), and Fiesta (at large). The Fiesta Bowl would still get good games because there's also the BCS Championship game that rotates. I think the Fiesta still stays in the BCS Championship rotation and gets the PAC-12 or Big 12 champ on years where the Rose or Cotton hosts the BCS championship game.

The Fiesta made more sense for the Big 12 then the Orange Bowl and the many programs and fans were more than happy when the Big 12 changed it's bowl tie in from the Orange to the Fiesta. At that time, the Fiesta had it's act together and put on a "good show" in a good facility. The same could not be said about the Cotton Bowl...until recently.

The Fiesta is in PAC country but not in it's heart like the Rose Bowl. It only becomes a home game for a team like ASU or Arizona and the PAC-10/12 champion was usually committed to the Rose Bowl. Perhaps BYU or Utah would make it a home game but as most on this board know too well, the BCS makes it difficult for MWC teams to get a BCS invitation. So Big 12 fans like traveling west to the desert and playing in the Fiesta Bowl where they would rightly be the "home team".

Contrast that with Big 12 fans going to Miami. Miami is in SEC/Big East/ACC country. The Orange Bowl would get OU and Nebraska fans to travel to Miami and then match them against a SEC/Big East/ACC team. The worst was when the Sooners or Huskers would have to play the Miami Hurricanes on their home field. Second worst was having to play Florida St. in Miami. In effect, the Big 12 conference champ became the visiting team and Miami or FSU enjoyed all the typical home field advantages.

So the Big12 wanted to change it's bowl tie in but the Cotton Bowl didn't have it's act together. The game was tethered to a facilty that the city of Dallas would not invest in and not in one of the better sections of Dallas (few hotels, shopping, high crime, etc.) The Orange Bowl had enough sense to eventually change this but the Cotton stayed pat and lost the Big12 in the process.

You claim to be a writer (admittedly, just of paperbacks) but don't know what a possessive pronoun is? Eek!

Its the editors job to make such corrections. Its the way it's always been done in publishing.

Will you read his book without worrying about stuff like this?
It took him years to write and pronouns weren't really a priority.
