  • Major program about to get busted?

Apparently there has been a whirlwind of rumors going around the last couple days about a major college football program about to be outed with major recruiting violations. Cowherd spoke of it this morning, apparently pointing to Oregon. This has been refuted by the Oregonian.

Also, this blog says its not Auburn.

If there is something to all these rumors, I wonder who it could be. I doubt its USC. Maybe Texas? Oklahoma? I hope its an SEC school at least.

A desperate, pathetic ploy for Cowherd's ratings.

This isnt from Cowherd, although he may have been discussing it today.
I first read about it about 9 or so days ago on wearesc. Apparently, the story broke by a guy that is a tOSU affiliate.

            http://wearesc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=157863

Obviously this is all speculation but it does seem that much of the speculation seems to be pointing Oregon's way.

Given that the Zeros are in the PAC 10, this probably means that Oregon is in big trouble.

Had Oregon been in the SEC, this entire matter would be settled and done by now.

Whatever it was I wish it had happened yesterday to bump Davies and the BYU meltdown a bit down the headline queue.

              Today would also be acceptable.

You mean a bitter intraconference down-on-its-luck rival is hoping it might be Oregon?

I noticed that in the news stories, the guy that claims to know which team it is consistently refers to the team as a "top ten to twelve" team. That suggests to me that it's not Oregon. If he does in fact know which team it is, he's going to make it as dramatic as possible, so an Oregon would render his headline "top five team about to be busted!!!" His phrasing suggests to me that it's not a team that's on top right now, and it's not one of the elite big name programs, either.

OTOH, and fwiw, Oklahoma reported several minor workout and recruiting violations earlier this week. Those facts are not consistent with this storyline, but

actually, no I hope it is NOT Oregon. That does nothing to help the conference. You generally don't want any school in your conference to be under SanCtions, the recent glee of some PAC10 nitwits notwithstanding. You want the conference to be as strong as possible. Hammering Oregon right now would be devastating to the PAC given that SC is already under SanCtion.

I was simply pointing out that if it were Oregon, the NCAA will likely take a different approach than what we have seen recently with Auburn and Ohio State.

As for the course of the story, when it first broke, the accusations were more vague. However, over the past couple of days, there seems to be more and more chatter towards Oregon. Maybe new stuff is leaking, I don't know. Of course, it could be another school or no school at all. I'm not sure I believe any of this, but at the same time, there seems to be a lot of stuff breaking over the past season....many schools being caught doing minor or major things, so at this point I guess nothing will surprise me. HFN might be able to shed some light, being associated with the booster crowd.

No, the title mentions a major program, not a mid-major independent program.

yes. Even if it's not Oregon this time, I expect to see violations exposed eventually. It's almost inevitable when you get to the elite levels of play and recruiting. For some reason I've also always suspected that both Oregon and Oklahoma State will eventually get busted just on account of the fact that in each case you have one guy single-handedly underwriting the entire athletic department. I'm not sure why, objectively, that makes it any more likely that they'd have infractions, but for some reason it makes sense in my head.

                          Sorry. Just being honest.

For the record, I don't consider the Utes a major program. Not yet, anyway.

Actually, Utah is exactly the kind of program I think they're talking about. I think we're looking at a program that's been top 10-20 for awhile now, but not one of the biggest big names.

Asking Il Pad to outgrow his little brother persona is asking the impossible.
