  • BYU to (potentially) change Student Seating

    http://www.ksl.com/?nid=272&sid=14044548

I think this is a good idea. Get the students together. It makes for a more unified student section and allows other previous student sections to be sold at a higher ticket value. I imagine it makes it easier to focus on student centric promotions as well.

Within that proposed grouping will the seats further be divided into subcategories?

A section for pink shirt wearing douche nozzles who text their friends 3 rows up the entire game and never once notice a game is in progress. Perhaps a recently returned missionary section encased in a bubble called The Righteous Zone. Yet another for the "THAT WAS A HOLD, REF!" group. Call that the If-You-Say-That-Once-More-I-will-fold-you-into-a-pretzel Zone.

What about the "I brought a date with me to the football game" section? I still can't get my head around that.

As a BYU student back in the day, I was able to get 2 tickets. And everyone kept asking me what date I was going to bring with me to the football game. It's a football game, not a romantic comedy. Where I come from, one doesn't bring a date to a football game unless 1)You're married and don't have a son old enough to go and your brother couldn't go 2)You're engaged - see #1 for your future 3)You're not married but living with someone and your brother couldn't go.

My first season at BYU I was surrounded by "fans" (I use that term loosely) who would chat about their friends and wave to people they knew so that they could show off their date. Had no clue what down it was or what team had the football. They might as well have gone to the Wilkinson center and chatted at a table. I'm all for a "Diner" football trivia quiz before someone is even eligible for tickets.

Since the locations of where a student sits changes each game I think it's a good idea to get them all in one giant area, just like they have at the Marriott Center.

          +1

This is America but I draw the line at the entrance to LES. It's sort of the Celestial Kingdom's waiting room.

Yeah, but its easy to seat the MUSS together because there are only about 50 of them.

Sorry. I should have said 100 instead of 50.

All I have to say is, it's about time.

Now if they can just find some way to institute an activities fee for all students that goes directly to the Athetics Department and allows students to get into any athletic event on campus for free, we'd be doing really great. Think about it, 30k students at $20 a semester, that's a cool $1.2 annual income right there.

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

you're thinking pre-2004 numbers. now that the utes have won the world series of superbowls twice, getting a muss ticket is pretty difficult.

but once you do, you've entered a wonderful world of minibottles galore.

sports passes with football tickets are already around $120 for students and $160 for guests. i would be very surprised if the athletic dept didn't get most (if not all) of that money.

I'm sure they do, but how many do the sell in a year? A lot of big schools charge each student an activities fee that goes straight to the athletic dept. It's nominal, not usually more than $50 a semester and the only way that the students even know they're paying it is if they look at an itemized breakdown of their tuition bill. Some realize it, but most don't even think twice about it, some never even exercise the privilege. The students get into all sports events by just showing and then when they graduate and make money they have fond memories of attending important games, building camaraderie, and they find a way to dig into their pockets and make donations. It's a win win situation and stands to make the dept. a lot more money in the long run than making the sports pass a voluntary purchase.

good point. that does seem to be an optimal model.
