Anae is officially gone

Bronco, a man not known for giving high praise called him the best QB coach in the country. It has been alleged that he has other offers out there. The play of the QBs has not been an issue under his tenure, with essentially every QB showing progress during their time with him. I think it is safe to say he probably knows his Xs and Os and can coach. He can definitely recruit, and that is absolutely a huge part of success at the D1 level. He isn't a sure thing as an OC. But I think he has proven enough to give him a shot and has proven more as a coach IMO than a guy like Detmer, somebody's name that has also been thrown around.

I agree. He's proven he deserves a chance. I give him very good odds.

I think the silence to my question has spoken. While he's the trendy choice, deep down, people don't seem to be sold on him.

I don't think we know what to expect. From a play calling standpoint, I think he will be very good. Who knows what kind of boss he will be to the other offensive coaches? One thing I do know is I wouldn't trade him for that turncoat A-Rod!

After attending the New Mexico bowl in Albuquerque my family and I drove north to Utah for the holidays. For fun we stopped at the Four Corners monument. It was teeming with BYU fans.

While my kids were looking for souvenirs, I talked to one guy in a BYU shirt. He just so happened to be Doman's brother. I asked him what he thought about Brandon's future. He said that in essence he is very happy at BYU, but I think he is getting pretty antsy to start calling plays. He also said that he was of the opinion that if we could keep this group together that we would have a chance to be really, really good in a couple of years. I took that to mean that Doman is very high on Heaps.

I think that getting rid of Anae was something Bronco may have felt compelled to do in order to keep Doman around as an asset for the school. I guess we may get a window into Bronco's thinking depending upon if Doman is made OC.

That's not an excuse. I think the sky's the limit w/ the LDS kids. I maintain that we could have gotten to the promised land if Ngata was on that 06 squad.

I believe this turn of events is all about Brandon Doman. I think that, for better or worse, Bronco's #1 priority right now is to not lose Doman to another school, especially (ghasp) the U. Anae's apparently crappy personality is a convenient excuse to make a change, but I think keeping Brandon Doman is higher on Bronco's radar than getting rid of an OC who treats his players like crap. A lot of coaches treat their players like crap. To say it doesn't, or even shouldn't happen at BYU is extremely naive. Not a lot of coaches can represent BYU like Brandon Doman, and I believe Bronco loves that about him.

That said, I have no idea if Brandon Doman will be an upgrade at OC. Too many variables at play to answer that question for a few years. I will say this (and I'm glad many of you have written it): criticizing Anae for his results on the field is laughable. The dude produced a consistent string of good/great offenses that will be hard for any OC to match over the next few years.

The minute Bronco started calling Doman the best QB coach in America, Anae must have started polishing his resume on a daily basis. Those comments were the equivalent of letter of termination.

I think Bronco will coach at BYU for another 3-6 years. He's said he does not want to coach forever. The comments about Doman being the best QB coach in the country are not just about selling the fan base on the current coaching moves, but also about setting the stage for a much bigger announcement as Bronco prepares to leave BYU (maybe to retire) in a few years -- that Brandon Doman will be the next BYU head coach.

Mike Runge on Fox 13 just said that according to his sources in AZ, Anae might be headed to the U of Arizona to be co-OC.

Not to my understanding. What should have been a boon with the Polys turned out to be a huge turnoff for the Polys in the pipeline. I heard one story where Bronco was none too pleased that Anae botched a recruitment. Could have been Sione. Can't remember who it was... anyone who could shed some light?

I think neither Anae nor Kaufusi do spectacularly recruiting Polys, but Kaufusi appears to have more talented progeny so he gots that for him, which is niiishe!

A capable sophist once waxed eloquent that Poly's have an "uh-virgin" to higher education. Perhaps they felt that that good doctor was little more than an uncle tom and too uppity for the island boys!
