Interesting. I leaned a bit toward the "Anae lover" side of the house. I don't think he was 'bad' as such and deserved to be let go.

I also have mixed feelings about it, because even today, Bronco will pull out the, "I'm still learning" and "this was a new circumstance for me, and decided to approach it this way, I'm still learning..." etc.

However, Hill, Anae, others...etc. obviously are also still "learning" and they lose their job.

Not really sure what to think. Yeah, there are always better people out there, etc. Not sure what to think.

ESPN is reporting that Mike Leach is interviewed with Maryland this morning. Any coincidence?

All the buzz on the DC sports radio this morning was that the MD AD flew in Leach for a visit to the campus yesterday while Maryland was playing their bowl game.

For all those who say he was "horrible" or "average" I present the facts: "During Anae’s tenure as offensive coordinator, BYU earned top-25 NCAA statistical rankings in different offensive categories on 28 occasions, including 13 times in the top 10. The Cougars have ranked in the top 25 in third-down efficiency each of Anae’s six seasons, including a No. 1 rating in 2009 and No. 2 rankings in 2008 and 2006. BYU achieved a top-6 passing offense three times (2005, 2006, 2008) in the past six seasons."
It is unlikely that a coach who is average could reach those numbers. One that is horrible? Not a chance in hell. He wasn't a perfect coach but he was a very good one.

No kidding, the stats in this case, I feel, speak for themselves. You don't get those kind of numbers over six seasons while being a mediocre OC.

I'm torn. Anae wasn't the most innovative OC, and he wasn't the most personabe person ever. But let's face it the Y's offense was very effective under his tenure. Absolutely BYU had some of its best talent ever, but for the most part, I think Anae did a solid job as OC.

I have to believe that there were legit contentions on the staff among some of the offensive coaches, and I truly feel that a change needed to be made somewhere for the good of the team. If Anae was the coach at the root of the issues, then maybe it is best for him to move on. I think BYU has a lot of talent in place and the new guy will definitely have the tools to work with. So it will be interesting to see what happens next.

I sure hope Bronco knows what he's doing here. I'm one who liked Anae and I still feel he was a very good OC and will be difficult to replace. I know everyone says Doman is ready but I'm nervous.

We had a similar situation with an associate attorney. She was bright, willing to work, although very slow and with little real ambition. She was good enough and was very helpful in a number of cases. I think she can do well in any number of law firms.

However, we needed more from her for our firm, if we want to realize our firm goals. So, we had to let her go. Not because she sucked, or even because she was mediocre, but because we needed more.

That's where BYU was with Anae.

I have believed for a while now that he needed to go. I guess I've been proved right.

Agreed. There's no question but that we just got rid of a very good coach. This could well be a repeat of the Norm Chow story-- whose firing preceded a 6-6 season and the beginning of the Gary Crowton era.

Sad, too, for a guy to leave his Alma mater on terms other than his own. BYU is a place people want to be. It's disappointing to see that dream come to an end for somebody who has done such a service to the school.

Why? So, when we complained about the playcalling and gameplanning, we were told we're being ridiculous and don't know what we're talking about. When we talk about Bronco getting rid of Anae, we're told we're being ridiculous and don't know what we're talking about. When we talk about leaked information about Bronco maybe not being happy with Anae as OC, we're told we're being ridiculous and don't know what we're talking about. We give our opinion that the time has come for a change at OC. We're told we're being ridiculous and don't know what we're talking about.

Now, Bronco has apparently shown Anae the door. We say that's a good move. We're again told, in essence, we're being ridiculous and don't know what we're talking about.

Why should we keep believing you?
