Colorado was also decent in the late '60s early 70s - finished 3rd in '71 right after Nebraska and Oklahoma - I think that is the only time a conference finished 1,2,3 in the polls - I still hate Johnny Rogers, of Nebraska, who single handedly beat OU in one of the greatest College Football games ever played

I guess it all depends on what you define as "IT." I think of the teams that were good when I first started watching college football in the early to mid 90s. Some that come to mind:

Arizona State
UCLA
Virginia
Notre Dame
Syracuse

three years. And since then they are 5-6. 7-6 & 6-6 (with a bowl game to play). they lost to Wyoming at home, for pete's sake! Three bad years is enough time to say that a program "no longer has it" And there's no real sign of improvement over that period either.

Syracuse is the poster boy as a once great program that is on it's way back, but has been down for about 8 years. Doug Marrone is doing a great job at the 'cuse resurrecting the program.

Agreed. It will be good to see the 'Cuse get back on their feet in time to welcome TCU.

In this category, I always think about Syracuse. From the late 80's -2001, they were strong. Over .500 every season with 5 10/11 win seasons and they put some good guys into the NFL. They finally perked up a little this year, but it seems like they've been in the bottom of the dumps for almost a decade.

Unfortunately for me, that is about the same time that the Raiders started their never ending descent.

Florida State. They are having a good year this year, but they were absolutely dominant throughout the 80s and 90s. Their fall has been huge because they had such a lofty perch.

I would be glad to see them get it again at least within the confines of the state of Florida.
