Oh I won't make the case that it, itself, is a "fire the coach" call or that it was a total no-brainer. But I think it was a near no-brainer for the following reasons:
1. Utah was clearly selling out to stop the run
2. We had a TO
3. Heaps had a hot hand and was making smart decisions
4. Payne is barely over 50% for his career outside of 40 yards - and most of those kicks weren't happening in 35 degree weather in hostile environments with the game on the line. With that in mind I feel like BYU NEEDED another 5-10 yards to feel safe, and they weren't going to get it running into Utah's goal line defense.
But sure - could have gone wrong throwing the ball as well.
