I think Wynn's problems go beyond confidence.

Anyone happen to know who his roommate was last season? Or who he palled around with last year?

His friend has since moved on prematurely.

Drum and I were saying I think you use one of the scholies you have left and go put the full court press on the best JC QB available and tell them that QB will be an open competition in the spring. In any event, it does need to be an open competition in the spring. I really would love to know what has gone wrong with him.
The last time we did that, we benched him for a true after he went 7-1 as a starter. Not really sure if JUCO QBs are going to give us the time of day right now -- or at least hear from opposing coaches that he shouldn't give Utah the time of day cuz we shit on winning QBs.

If BJ can fix a few of these problems Wynn will be serviceable in the pac-12.
His biggest issue isn't the deep ball - Utah's receivers have been adept at getting underneath his deep balls. It's that he can't hit an intermediate pass to save his life...

It seems earlier in the season I read Ute fans saying they wanted to see Cain. Wynn wasn't great, but Cain was lol bad. That arm is nearing Riley Nelson territory.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

But Robles was unable to beat out Jordan Wynn who clearly lacks skills to be a D-1 quarterback. Do you think he is a stud because he broke a 50 yard run against New Mexico? Ryan Folson and David Foote the two worst players in D-1 history did that for BYU.

Or is he a stud because he is 0-1 passing in his career? He is Utahs third leading rusher this year (130 yards yikes).

He might turn out to be great but right now he is total unknown commodity.
To me he looks like he has a lot of potential. But thats just my opinion.

Just a thought- Wynn has had some bright spots in his career...to me it's clear that he has the talent to be a D-1 starter. It looks like other coaches have him basically figured out though. Rush 3 maybe 4 guys and go for the zone. He'll have to make some significant changes if he wants to keep his starting job. Should be up for grabs next fall.

I heard the other night that Wynn really hasn't been the same since the Air Force game. Apparently he was hit particularly hard a couple of times and the way my friend put it "Wynn is thinking about it" before he throws it. I'm not sure how accurate that is- just something I heard.

I see why SU doesn't much care for you.

From ColoUte something that is relevant to the discussion

My thoughts are that Wynn reminds me of Mike McCoy as a Sophomore. Now many of you don't go back that far, but the thing I remember about McCoy as a Sophomore were 2 utter ass-kickings we gave to Kansas and Air Force with him looking like a world-beater....only to get shellacked by New Mexico and UTEP at home....where their #$@%ing Center had 70 some yards of rushing on fumble-rooskis, but that's a story for another time.

My point is that McCoy showed potential as an underclassman in relief of Dolce and had some great games.....but then in other games, was virtually a swear-word to the Ute fan-base. (don't get me started on the Idaho game his Jr. Year...yeesh) But half-way through his Junior year, something clicked, and he started consistently being the good quarterback we saw signs of.

Now, only time will tell if Jordan can find that sort of consistency and confidence....or if he remains a head-case. He needs to be the SDSU/CSU/Poinsettia Bowl Jordan EVERY game. He needs to get much quicker with his reads, with his decisions, and get the ball out quicker. He needs to trust his teammates more. He needs to trust that he can throw a ball to a spot, and get it out before the receiver makes his break, and trust he'll be in the right place and make the catch. He needs to trust his O-Line to give him some time so he can plant, step into the throw, and maintain fundamentals.

I'd love to see us become a more effective zone-blocking run team. Now, when I mentioned this to my Father-in-Law, he said, "Don't you need a QB who can run to do that?" I'm not sure you do. Kellen Moore certainly isn't known for being a dual-threat, but BSU has one of the best zone rushing offensive I've seen. What we need is a mobile and physical line, backs who are strong and quick....and patient enough to stay behind the moving line until the holes open up, and then hit them hard. Dare to dream, I guess.

Some good points, with a few historical inaccuracies, but mostly spot on. The problem is, the same problems Jordan had at the end of last year are still evident today. With the exception of deep balls, he's still throwing to players instead of spots. He simply does not trust his own ability to get the ball to the right spots. Until he does, our offense will continue to struggle against good defenses.

And along the same tangent, this is why I was leery of moving BJ up to QB coach so early in his career (and which is why it would've been a horrible idea for Scalley to be DC after GA moved on). He simply does not have enough experience as a coach, and just because he was a great player, it does not automatically translate into being a great coach. And Wynn's mechanics have been god-awful this year.

Remind me again who Brian Johnson had as QB coaches as a player? Dan Mullen and Andy Ludwig. You cannot convince me in a million years that Brian Johnson as a coach is anywhere near those two cats.

Wynn's trajectory reminds me of Sean Covey's at BYU. As a soph Covey looked good, had a couple of great games in fact. His junior year he did credibly well until he took a vicious, world-rocking hit against Utah. From then on he was timid and indecisive and never really got it back.

Wynn might have a future writing motivational classics like Sean's "4th Down and Life to Go - How to Turn Life's Setbacks Into Triumphs."
