Jake Heaps winced as he slowly walked into the cold, dark night outside Rice-Eccles Stadium after the BYU-Utah game on Saturday, surrounded by family members and pained in every which way a quarterback can hurt. In the first quarter, he popped out a rib when a defender bellyflopped on him after a scramble. The rib was popped back in by trainers at halftime, and the freshman played on.

It probably pales in comparison to what they said to Crowton in 2004. Can't celebrate the biggest accomplishment in school history because you're too busy trash talking the opponents soon to be fired coach and his wife and kids. It wasn't the whole fan base, but it was absolutely more than one or two guys.

While we waited to get into the stadium today there was a huge crowd of Utah fans and a couple of BYU fans clustered together. A bunch of Utah fans formed a protective circle around the BYU fans, who were very nice. A couple of inebriated Ute fans were ranting about something, and the group encircling the BYU fans joked with them about it.

Just an anecdote. It's not disputed that there are idiot Utah fans, especially at the rivalry game. But to suggest those guys are typical or anything more than a tiny but loud minority just makes you look silly.

what? utah fans (fans of any team, really) are responsible to curb the behavior of the extreme minorities, not the other way around. nobody is obligated to dismiss their bush league antics on the basis that not everyone is doing it.
