I'll speculate. It's not uncommon for a person who goes to an out of state school to wish they weren't so far from home. Schools tend to see that in-state recruits have a better on-field success rate than out of state recruits.

At least that's what I read in an article not long ago.

Oh, were you talking about the whole Mormon/HC thing? Nah, you would never be so quick to jump to that conclusion.

I don't think it was an HC but more of a comfort issue. From what we know about Teyo it is likely that living the HC at BYU is a secondary concern to being a member of a demographic (Non-LDS African immigrant) not particularly well represented in the student body.

Besides that it is getting cold outside.

I am not worried, Jake Heaps will save the day!

Mostly, my guess is the kid followed Ross because he did not know what else to do and now the kid is making his own way in the world and perhaps he did not think through following Ross to Utah.

I also think if he sticks it through the winter and gets into a position where he is participating in spring ball and it appears that he is likely to play an important role next season, it suddenly won't be so bad. I think the redshirt year is a real tough year for kids who belong to a non-highly represented demagraphic at BYU. Time will tell but in many ways his support system is likely to encourage him to stay.

Why is he picking on a 14-year old?

        Or is he 7' tall?

Actually I wasn't speculating on the mormon/HC thing. I was thinking more in terms of a kid very talented going where a buddy was going and believing the we can be National Champs someday.

He gets here and finds out talent isn't a priority. Heck, football isn't even a priority. He maybe wrongly feels he isn't getting a shot because less talented life experience folks get higher consideration.

He looks and thinks, geez, the school that is going great and perhaps develops talent is right back where I used to live.

After all that, then maybe he thinks, besides that I don't have to put up with the mormon/HC crap. However, as I said I wouldn't speculate that would be the reason for leaving.

Well, sounds like this article has direct quotes from him. That sucks.

He is a fan of the The Clash?

I think he will get talked into sticking it out through spring ball and by then it will get warmer outside and his spirits will pick up.

It sounds to me like the kid is just homesick.

Didn't he live with Apo's family in high school? I think it likely that not only will he stay but it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up joining the LDS Church. I think the kid is probably starting to find some friends/cliques and getting over his homesickness. He is finding out that while weird as hell, the place ain't all that bad. The next step is embracing the weirdness. Stockholm Syndrome!

I doubt he plays a great deal next year. I think the DL rotation will include Fuga, Fangupo, EthynM, Dulan, Putnam and Bryson. But that group includes 3 seniors so if he keeps working hard he should have a real chance to significantly contribute for 3 years starting as a sophmore.
