In hindsight, I think we as Ute fans regret having voted ourselves so high in the polls. If we had to do it again, we would probably vote ourselves a little lower.

Seriously though, there are some good comments in this thread. First, this is still a good team that if it wins out will finish ranked, maybe even top 10. That is a great year by any standard. Second, we clearly have a segment of our fan base that lacks perspective. Sometimes you lose. Sometimes you get debacled. It happens, it hurts, you move on. That is no reason to boo, however. I'm glad to hear that other fans we competing with the booers.

Utah has a very good team. I think they will beat ND handily and then pull away to decisive wins in their final two games. I think the Utes are a legit top 20 club. For a team with a sophmore qb and rebuilding a defense that sent 4(5?) guys into the NFL, that is pretty impressive.

I just chuckle because I remember before the U was good the cracks that U fans loved to make towards BYU because of the assholes it was afflicted with as a consequence of success.

Actually it was Larry from Lehi, but that call went like this:

Goat asks (and BD rises to the bait) Quick Ute fans: Tell us your favorite Laval from Laverkin call in whine story that Lavell Edwards had to endure!

Larry from Lehi is our first caller. Wow! Larry it shows you've been holding for over two hours. Whats on your mind?

Larry (fuming). Hi coach. 'Preciate ya. I just want to know who called that off tackle run on third and eight with 10 minutes left in the third quarter from the 22?

LaVelle: That would be me Larry.

Larry: Oh. Well 'preciate ya, coach. Click.

Heaps will be a much better qb probably by next year, but he has to be for BYU to be really good. Utah can be really good without really good qb play.

I just want to give my condolences to Ute fans. As a Cougar fan I know how it feels to think you have a good team, only to watch them be absolutely demolished in person. And it sucks.

There was a caller on the radio this morning who was reportedly very excited about the "atmosphere" at the game on Saturday. Called it "real tailgating" for the first time ever. He was excited that there were drunks everywhere, including one who threw up on his shoes. Finally a woman drunk enough to go topless!

Looking back, I suppose he may have been using a bit of sarcasm, but it did make me chuckle.

I didn't see the whole game, I was at LES when it was occuring and it didn't seem like a "good" enough game to go and watch a replay of. But I did see the highlights....er....lowlights. And I didn't think Wynn was as horrible as has been implied.

What I mean by that is, he wasn't exactly the most accurate QB out there, but I didn't think the two int's were his fault. Wasn't one a ball that the receiver tipped and the other was one he threw when getting hit - which didn't allow him to have any follow through? At least it looked like he couldn't have turned his body to get the ball out in front of the WR, who was open on the throw.

Anyway - pretty silly to focus on Wynn either way. A butwhipping of those proportions can't be put on one player.

Of course he will, he can ONLY improve.

Your posts remind me of one of my favorite pastime as a mormon boy growing up in the VC back when the Mormon Church was truer than it is today. We would go on these major ym/yw houseboat trips to Lake Mead. Throwing bread or popcorn from the docks would coax in thousands of carp and then we would beat the living shit out of them with oars.

This is a very good thread, and I think it is indicative of most of the posts on CUF.

Except for Sloan...who obviously can't tell that IC was joking.

Sloan...you are going to ruin a decent thread...yet again.

Second was after the pick right after half, and third when Wynn came back onto the field right after the pick.

The loudest boos were when Wynn came back onto the field, which were drown finally by the cheering from the NEZ.

Regardless if they were intended for Wynn (they were BTW, anyone who says different is a moron), the players felt that they were directed at the players. Zane Taylor said as much after the game.
That's how I remember it too. I was pretty dismayed to hear it. We were sitting on the east side, about midfield, and it sounded to me like the booing was coming from to lower west side, on the northern half. (You confirmed this.) FWIW, I didn't hear any booing from around me. To the extent anyone around me reacted it was, "Oh, come on, don't boo him." I'm sorry the players felt that way and I don't blame them. It was probably the worst day of their football-playing lives -- and they're getting booed by their own fans? Not a good moment, but it was only a moment. Most of the time, after it was clear we were toast, the fans around me were sitting in shocked silence or asking each other what was wrong with the Utes.

I have tried in the past to subtly communicate to you that your fans are horrible and your team is overrated, but apparently the message wasn't received. I'm sorry that you had face this reality in such a jarring manner.

I have told this fan call in story before, but quite a while ago and it is a good one.

Remember the game against SDSU in San Diego that ended in a tie. Detmer brought the team back from a huge defecit. LaVelle went for the tie.

Guy calls in. Coach why did you go for the tie. We should have gone for the win.

LaVell in a calm tone. Well a tie assured us of the championship and as far as we came back in the game, well the kids deserved to go away without a loss in the game.

Guy, really irritated. WEll coach, I would have gone for the win!!!!

LaVell calmly. That is why I am coaching and you are calling in.
