He also said that TCU's best shot at a title game is to win out but also have Baylor win out.
Utah is already ahead of Alabama in the BCS rankings.

Utah is higher ranked and plays #3.

Alabama is behind Utah and plays #10.

I'm not sure that Edwards is correct.

Utah might not pass Boise, but it's unclear that they won't.

Remember when Missouri beat OU? They skyrocketed. Granted, TCU is #3 not #1, but I would think Utah would get a pretty nice bump from playing and beating #3, should that happen.

Utah is barely ahead of Bama in the computer polls. And Edward's main argument was that Bama will stay ahead of Utah in the human polls. Also to consider is the point differential between Boise and Utah who has a large lead. How that will shake out I don't know. But Edwards is ESPN's BCS guru. This is what he said on Mike and Mike this morning. Greenie was arguing that the winner of TCU/Utah will jump. Golic did too, but then backpedaled a bit and said TCU will but not sure if Utah will. So they called Edwards to get his opinion.

I understand he's ESPN's guru. He's been wrong about a number of things regarding the BCS standings already this season.

I'm not saying Utah will, I'm saying they could/might and that Edwards could be very wrong.

Hell, Herbstreit said this morning that Utah went to the Fiesta Bowl under Urban Meyer in 2006.

ESPN's guys are quite often wrong.

Of course, they could be right.

BTW, Utah was barely below Alabama last week and jumped Alabama on the strength of a win over AFA. TCU should provide Utah more of a boost than AFA, no?

Eventually, Alabama plays Georgia State. That's going to hurt them.

Granted, all this being said, I think if Alabama or Auburn wins out, that team will be in the BCS championship game. Auburn would stay ahead of Boise and Utah. Alabama will either jump ahead of both or drop behind both in all polls.

I think the Alabama factor is a short-term thing. Eventually Utah/Boise will be side by side in human polls and it's going to come down to SOS and computers.

Does anyone know, is there a website with SOS projections for the end of the season? It's all going to come down to that, IMO. Should Utah and Boise win out the final human rankings will have them 2/3 or 3/4.

Lame. I had absolutely no idea it was such a HUGE deal. Please forgive my lack of message board etiquette.

Utah's 9th in the computers; Alabama 15th. That's not "barely ahead."

We'll call TCU/Auburn a wash. LSU is better than San Diego State, and ditto Mississippi State for BYU or Notre Dame. But Georgia State will be an albatross that keeps the Tide from getting ahead of Utah in the computers.

What Alabama really needs to make getting ahead of Utah and into the top 2 a no-doubt-about-it scenario is to win out and stomp South Carolina in the SEC title game.

You're right. I meant BCS poll.

I think there is little doubt that Bama ends up at least #2 if they win out. That will give them 5 wins against the top 25 to Utah's 1. I also think you're overstating the effect that Georgia State will have. But I could be wrong.
