I'd say no, definitely not, but my response might be different if either one of the following were true: (a) the wrongdoer was a player or coach, or (b) it was clear that in the absence of the wrongdoing, the outcome would have been different.Originally posted by UtahDan View PostAs a thought exercise, if someone got an attack of conscience and stepped forward to acknowledge wrong doing, should BYU voluntarily forfeit the game? Would that be the right thing to do? Does it matter if someone did something dishonest?

Did everyone forget that this fumble happened in the 3rd quarter of the game?Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostI'd say no, definitely not, but my response might be different if either one of the following were true: (a) the wrongdoer was a player or coach, or (b) it was clear that in the absence of the wrongdoing, the outcome would have been different."It's devastating, because we lost to a team that's not even in the Pac-12. Yes, for that reason alone, SDSU's complaint is stupid. If this were a matter of pushing a football six inches over the goal line, under the dogpile, after the whistle had blown, then maybe they'd have somehting (and a future apostleship would be out of the question, of course) But a lousy call with a lot of time left on the clock? Has there ever been a game without such?Originally posted by kccougar View PostDid everyone forget that this fumble happened in the 3rd quarter of the game?

Jay Drew:
Call it the controversy that just won't die. The latest in the controversy that erupted when replay officials at the BYU-SDSU game last month botched a review of Cougar RB J.J. Di Luigi's fumble is that MWC commissioner Craig Thompson sent a private letter explaining the screw up to SDSU president Stephen Weber.
Somehow, a copy of the private letter ended up in the hands of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Thompson told the president that the members of the replay crew -- which included BYU employee Chad Bunn and BYU alum Rob Moon along with head replay official Mike Angelis of Reno, Nev. -- "weren't sufficiently aggressive" in making it known that the non-fumble call made on the field was wrong.
Here are the key parts of the letter:
“It became clear the replay official [Angelis] had become disproportionately focused on the Camera #5 shot and on the issue of ‘clear recovery.' He failed to ask the communicator [Bunn] if there were additional clips available for review before making his final decision. Concurrently, the communicator was not sufficiently aggressive in notifying the replay official that additional thumbnails were available. Finally, the technician who had a view of the television line feed, did not notice or did not interject that a definitive view of the play was being shown on the air.”

I hope their bitterness forces them to schedule another game with BYU in the next couple of years. Even with the improvements that Hoke and Rocky are making, BYU would crush them. That would be enjoyable.Originally posted by Clark Addison View PostThis whole mess started as an unfortunate mistake that marred a fairly boring football game between two mediocre teams.
The way SDSU has not given up on it though, it has turned into my favorite thing about this season.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.
