Dunn canceled his trip and is at tOSU right now. has played some this year as a True Frosh..

Now, do I think there is a HUGE difference between BYU and tOSU. Yes.

Do I think Urban has the muscle's to do this? Yes.

In the case of BYU and Bronco. I don't think they have the luxury to draw a line like that with a star recruit when they rarely get one of that caliber ever..

But it isn't out of the norm for coachces to do this.. Just think you have to be a SC, LSU, Florida, UM type of place to make such ultimatums...
I don't think it was Manti that Bronco gave an ultimatum to that was Schwenke - likely because Bronco knew he had lost Schwenke anyway. I really don't know what went down with Manti but I think it involved a party at BYU where there was alcohol. I don't know if Mendenhall put out some sort of agenda like he did for Van Noy or just got over the top with some rebuke to a kid who was a recruit and expecting his ass to be kissed - my instinct is the latter. Bronco is Bronco and while I would like BYU to get every great LDS kid, it has never happened and Bronco is not the greatest of recruiters. But, I tend to think that even "The Closer" himself would not have landed most of these kids. I tend to believe that most of them really just don't want to go to BYU and likely while Bronco's lack of interpersonal skills doesn't help in that regard, I think the bigger impediment is that BYU is just BYU. Look at Kav, if the others don't work out there is always BYU.

I guess I just want the program to be in good enough shape to get these guys more regularly, so that BYU is THE place for the LDS athlete, and right now it's not.

Didn't read the whole thing but interesting he says he was headed to USC before he decided on ND.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Uh, im no longer sad Manti te'o went somewhere else.

Te’o’s official visit to South Bend was a disaster. He showed up for a late November weekend in jean shorts and a long-sleeved T-shirt, sending the Irish staff scrambling to find him loaner jogging pants

I thought he was BYU's until Bronco Mendenhall started his visit by telling him that if he had any intention of starting, or perhaps it was even suiting up, as a true freshman he could leave those at the door!

Teo being on the cover of SI is a significant PR victory for the LDS Church, yet at the same time, a measurable PR blow to BYU football. The former isn't going to get Romney elected or result in millions of baptisms; the latter isn't going to result in BYU going 4-8 for the next five years.

But if you would have pitched the idea of a Mormon collegiate athlete being on the cover of the nation's most popular sports magazine, playing for Notre Dame and not BYU, you would have been laughed out of the room as recently as 10 years ago. Frame this in the 1970s, and you'd have someone who was as big (bigger?) than the Osmonds.

Yeah, now that you mention it I do remember that. I was thinking dropping BYU in favor of ND was a signing day surprise, but that's not went down. He dropped BYU before signing day, and at that point everyone thought he was headed to SC. The signing day surprise was that he picked ND over them.

Last I heard the hypocritical nature of certain players (his cousins) and the alcohol was a huge turnoff for the kid. He's a really good kid, and family pressure can draw to bad behavior (especially, unfortunately, in the Poly culture). I love watching everybody drool over their superstar Mormon over in Southbend... but man... BYU's defense this year would've been legendary if he had come to Provo.

So does Manti have a realistic shot at winning the Heisman?

I really don't see a little freshman in Manziel getting it over Manti, but what do I know? Maybe that's wishful thinking. Seems like a perfect year for a defensive player to win it without any dominant offensive star. All of Manti's INTs and the undefeated season might give it to him.

Any projections or polls about Heisman voting? What does Nate Silver say?
