IMO, that is the plan. Holt is being used this year and given the glut of TEs the only reason I can conclude to justify not RS Holt is that there is a plan that he becomes one of the main guys. I think it will be similar to how BYU used Coates and Harline. Pitta was more of a true tight end who could play both roles, I don't think Wilson can do that and I don't think Holt will be the same pass catching threat of Pitta, but in tandem I think they can work out well.

I think Mahina will be moved to defense and Muehlman will be the 3rd option.

Doman could not hit a 10 yard out from the opposite hash to save his live. Doman threw an ugly ball but he was a gamer.

If Doman had DiLuigi as his primary back the similarities would be shocking.

Doman stuck as the Niners 3rd string qb for a year+, I sincerely doubt Nelson will sniff an NFL roster, no offense to Riley with that statement.

Doman's arm is 2X Nelson's arm, and I'm not saying that Doman had a great arm.

Weird that the Utes did not know that in 2001. I guess Johnathan Pittman didnt either since Doman hit him on consecutive deep outs.

The Bills and 49ers did not know it either.

I think if BYU had Staley this season and Heaps didn't exist, Nelson would benefit from the hype in the same way that Doman benefited. Doman was never going to stick in the NFL, and he lucked out into a 5th round pick due to BYU's offensive productivity which in large part was due to Staley.

Also remember that Nelson is a JR.

It's amazing a little guy like that can whip the ball around so well, but he does it. I predict he's as good as Max Hall by the end of the year and as good as John Beck senior season by the end of next year.
Wait a minute...you are predicting that Heaps gets worse during his 2nd year?

Bronco just said the WR's probably have a tough time adjusting from Riley's throws to Jake's. Is this going to put a wrench in the 2 QB system?
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Haha. No I think Beck's senior season was a special year as far as QB play goes--best since Sark's senior year.

I didn't hear what Bronco was referring to, but I think the problem is two-fold: the timing on the routes is going to be completely different depending on which QB is in, and catching the balls once it actually gets there is very different because of the arc, pace, and spin that will vary from Nelson to Heaps.

I think at least one incompletion from Heaps was due to Hoffman not being on the same page as far as when he was to come out of his break. He ran a good route and got open, so either QB could have hit him if the timing would have just been right. But Heaps had the ball right where it needed to be right as Hoffman was starting to come back for the ball. I saw that and thought, "Would have been the perfect route if it would have been Nelson throwing to him."

Not getting one QB all of the game prep reps during practice is really going to prevent the offense from excelling as long as this series-by-series rotation continues.

I agree. And this has been the drum I have been banging. The time is coming and it's coming soon (if it's not already here) that Bronco's indecision (or decision depending on how you look at it) is going to retard the development of Heaps and this offense as a unit.

The kid played that well against a good team, in his first game as a true freshman, while having to rotate series, and even though he's only had half of the reps in practice through spring and fall that a starter would normally get.

Time to quit pretending like playing both QBs the same amount during practice and games is the best idea. Hand the reigns to Jake, use Nelson as a very solid wildcat QB for 7-10 plays/game, and really maximize the strengths that the offense has in the pass blocking of the OL/Kariya and talent at receiver.

You love what Saracen has given to the program, but shortly you have to acknowledge that JD McCoy is the future and present.

I agree with most of the sentiments herein expressed, and would just like to add that Utah has some great looking RBs.
